Saturday Kitchen this morning and James Martin
addicted2dancin
10-12-2005
This morning I woke up, went downstairs and switched on the TV. There was nothing else on so I decided to watch Saturday Kitchen. Little did I know that near the end of the programme, I was to be annoyed by a short fat little man with a beard (AWT).
They talked about SCD and about James and Camilla for a few minutes, and then to my horror he says innocently, "And here he is now. How are you feeling James?"
And who is at the other end of the phone? None other than James Martin himself!!!!!! And as if to add insult to injury at the end of the show AWT opens his shirt to reveal a black t-shirt with 'Vote for James' and his number scrawled across it!!!
I don't think James actually cares about his dancing anymore, it's all about the public vote. I think its really unfair as other dancers who are still in and those who have left have not felt the need to publicise themselves in this way.
They are easily the worst dancers and therefore should leave, but if everyone keeps on voting then they won't, and then someone worthy of a place in the final will have to leave. Is this fair?? No, in my opinion, it isn't.

Ooh, that James! He pops up everywhere doesn't he?

Yes, I found that side of the James and Camilla campaign a bit hard to stomach. I found it irritating when he hijacked some cookery performance after a book signing ( or whatever it was ) to push his cause.

I don't know if you can conclude that he doesn't care about the dancing though.

It's true, its unfair. But then again avid Brendan fans like myself thought it unfair Fiona went, and the avid James fans will think it unfair if he goes. I believe that people like the underdog because they seem to get better if they don't get voted out, but the final should be against the three most talented and that is Zoe, Colin and Darren.

But they always have an underdog in the Final but the most talented always seems to win.

I would like to know on what, addicted2dancin', you would base the statement that James doesn't care about the dancing anymore and just about the public vote.
Haven't you watched ITT in the last days (apart from Arlene's comments which you probably found a hoot).
The man (and his partner) are excited to dance in the semi-final and have practiced hard on the two routines. Besides that he (unlike all the other couples) holds down a full time day job and still manage to be the most complete ballroom dancer out there (better than Colin or Darren mind you).
The only problem they have are the judges who (apart from Len) have barely been fair in marking them. Others on the show have admitted that, I might add.
I therefor do not find it strange he rallies for the public vote like this. Nothing shameless about it. It shows dedication and want to be in the Final. And with unexpected help from the wicked witch of the West-End last night, I'd see he's in with more than a fighting chance.

Go James & Camilla (and good on ya Ant for giving the ol student-chef some support)

Well if you are going to be like that about it.......

I think that James's popularity
a) spreads from all the media attention he got at the beginning of the series from all that 'Is he or isn't he with Camilla?' stuff. He thought 'Oh it doesn't matter anymore, because people will vote for me to see how it all unfolds'. He was then on R&J saying "Oh no me and Camilla aren't together! Oh ho ho wouldn't that be a laugh!" (more publicising)
b) the public will saving him even when he was terrible. THe week he did the Jive, he was appaling!! Then the GBP vote him in and another couple who danced better than him were sent home
and c) He publicises manically because he knows his dancing alone won't save him. Maybe if other couples in the past had done this maybe they would have lasted longer but they didn't and now the fabulous Mr Martin is all set for the semi-final.

Well I think I've said what I wanted to. Good day to you.

Would've been better though if you'd replied with stake-holding arguments. 'The media-card' has been referred to by many and is really getting old. Besides that it does not really go into answering the question I posed to you, does it Never mind, it's all good

It's clear we differ from opinion and that's allright. That's what all good open debate should be about, right?
Let's all wait and see what happens tonight (well in less than 3 hours to be more exact). I'm excited and nervous, aren't you?
It's gonna be a great show with the regular drama at the end I reckon.

James & Camilla in the FINAL

Why shouldn't AWT support James. They are best friends after all? Its no worse then the english cricket players having massive banners with Darren's number written on them at Cricket matches. (I personally dont see anything wrong with either of these.)

James and Camilla have denied being in a relationship since the begining. So they appeared on R&J. So did Darren and Lilia. Cant you just except that James is well liked

James' Jive wasn't the best. But Bill's Rumba was worse that night.

So, Zoe and Ian paraded themselves all over Brighton Pier. Begging passersby to vote for them.
Colin choose to publicise themselve during an event that was meant for athlethics.
Darren gets giant banners with his number on screen all the time during england matches.
As I said before I see nothing wrong with any of these things but dont just single James out when they're all guilty of it.

Totally agreeing with you Selena.

They all want the public votes as they know that the judges can't save them. Think of Ian and that poster last night on ITT & Bill attempting to get as many votes as he could with the ankle (when he had the number on his bandage). Publicity is publicity and I do not think that James is any worse than any of the others, whoever makes it to the final will, and apart from voting a ridiculous number of times, there is very little, as individuals, that we can do about it!

So none of the others have been canvasing for votes??
I have friends that live in Brighton and there have been Zoe and Iain posters (including vote line number) fly posted all over the place for weeks.

Surely the people that go to James Martin demo's are fans of his in the first place. So he's preaching to the converted!! And all this about him being the middle-aged woman's favourite is crazy. Ok, so there were a lot of older women at the demo's but there were also a lot of younger ones there too.

I think that he has tried and worked very hard for SCD and he deserves as much as anyone to go through to the final.

GOOD LUCK JAMES
