i apologise whole heartedly for the "skinny" rederence

i don't like either blunt or williams. in my opinion they are both charlatans of the music scene, but if someone was holding a knife to my throat forcing me to choose, i would actually choose blunt. there is a whole plethera (or however you spell it) of male singer songwriters in leagues way above both of the afformentioned.

Here's a revolutionary thought for you - ever thought about posting positively on your particular favourite artists as opposed to wasting your energies posting negatively about the artists you don't like? I've just checked your other posts and not even the merest hint of any artists you actually like (apart from the Nizlopi single, of course). Maybe it's just me, but I find your attitude rather depressing (but incredibly British).

SGE,

Your argument works both ways. You also have to accept that people will have different opinions to those expressed by yourself. Unfortunately you may not like what they have to say, but until freedom of speech is finally outlawed you best get used to it.

I think you have totally misunderstood my post, Dark Drums. I have absolutely nothing against the concept of free speech whatsoever and frequently take advantage of that concept myself. All I'm saying is it's easier to have a go at what you don't like in this world but not as easy to state what you actually DO like and run the risk of people telling YOU what they think of your particular favourite artist. Suffice to say, even if your favourite artist was somebody I genuinely thought sucked balls, I would be far more constructive in my criticism and way less condescending than stating he's 'skinny and whiny' and 'shame on anyone who buys this stuff'. Not exactly an intelligent way to argue your point, is it?

So, anyway, let's have some of your favourite artists, just so I can get a feel of where you are coming from musically, eh? Over to you....

your quote, about me being "typically british". it would be just like an american to see the world in all sweetness and light, and just want to be "positive" about everything.

Oh, I see where you are coming from. That sort of backs up my point, I suppose, in a funny way. I don't like negativity so I must be non-British. LOL! I still haven't discovered who your favourite artists are, any chance of a cryptic clue? Wait a minute, I think I've managed to find a few: Black Eyed Peas, Mylo and My Chemical Romance? OK, now I have a clue as to your musical preferences, I won't be engaging in any more 'banter' with you on this thread.

SGE, you say you don't like negativity, so why are you so very negative about Will Young lately?

I expect BurstBubble is glad!

Why? If I thought we were going to be entering into some sort of serious adult debate I would, but I fear you intentions are just to be petty.

Anyway I've been more then expressive about what music I've been getting into of late across various threads, I don't feel the need to explain myself again.

ah, but those are the albums i recieved for xmas, not ones i went out and bought myself. i have too many fave artists to try naming a few, but here are some:

RHCP's, pixies, (old) manic street preachers, nirvana, bob dylan, jimi hendrix, beatles, i can't go on, my brain will explode, and i will start to develop RSI.

and i noticed you didn't mention that i had Blondie and Johnny Cash albums for xmas too. can't really trash them can you?!

I have it on very good authority that Mr Blunt spent quite a bit of time the other week throwing tomatoes at himself on that site. Thought it was hilarious, as indeed do I. Very cleverly done.

Meanwhile, back on topic , Back To Bedlam is now up to number 2 on US iTunes download chart, beating such superstars as Eminem, Kanye West, Madonna, Mariah Carey et al. This bloke is just going to be massive there next year (if Ruby is reading this, note I said next year, not in 10 years time! ). Really good to see a Brit actually cracking the US for a change, but I'm sure there would be some on here who would disagree.

Edit: WARNING: if you hate Blunt, avoid reading any further as I won't be held responsible for anybody internally combusting as the result of apoplexy!

Virgin? Nuff said! Chav radio more like!

Anyway, if he is doing well, good luck to him. But I still cannot stand his whiny nasal voice. And his boring videos.

I quite like his videos for Wisemen and Goodbye My Lover. As much as I like him I can't see the much-love of "You're Beautiful", as "Goodbye My Lover" is a much better song (okay so thats in my opinion but bah, t'is :P)

You're Beautiful has now been completely overplayed so its impact has been largely lost here in the UK (hardly Blunt's fault, he even got his record company to delete the physical single but it keeps re-entering the charts purely on download sales!), but I remember first hearing it on the album in about March 2005 and I thought it totally stood out as a potential single (I had no idea he'd already released 2 singles off the album by this stage). It's by no means the best track on the album IMO but it serves its purpose as an 'immediate' (i.e. I think it's an instant ear opener as opposed to a grower) taster of it and it definitely attracts people to buy the album (the same thing has happened in just about every European country this year and is now happening in the US)

Can't really see "You're Beautiful" ever appearing in the top 10 again though - just happened to be enough battered old women voting with only short term memory and bad taste. James Blunt is a rubbish artist, and its mainly women who buy his records. Its dull, insipid background music. Its amazing how dull rubbish like him, Dido and David Gray seem to do so well.....

So should everyone be singing received pronunciation?

I'm not a fan of Blunt's but there are a lot of pop/rock singers who don't have perfect diction.

Personally, I can't bear to listen to opera singers performing pop or rock songs with their 'perfect' diction, to me it sounds ridiculous.
June

I don't know why you dug up my bit about lisps! Good diction doesn't have to be received pronunciation. It is just that it is so much better to be able to hear what someone is singing, without all the glottal stops!

And yes, I agree with you about the opera singers.
