What's your viewing distance? Will HDTV be necessary on a 17"?

The only one I know of is the Philips 17PF9220 but it's hardly available.

The only small one that I know of is the Philips 20" 20PF5320.

I take it in a bedroom setting the viewing distance is going to be smaller than a living room. If HD pictures look as good on 28" set's I would have thought there'd still be a improvement on a 17"

Why HD Ready?
If you're looking for a crisp, clear, sharply-focussed picture at bargain basement cost, I'd recommend a Sony 21" CRT. Available for just over £100 brand new.
If you want a poorer picture, but hi-tech item, get an LCD for about £300.
If it's about HDMI and DVI interface connections (though why you'd want these when you can connect via Scart, Phono. or S-VHS type leads beats me), then you'll have to spend a lot more money for no noticeable increase in picture quality on a small display.
