Reading through the PVR discussions I noted the gripes problems, particularly those associated with archiving recording content to DVD and connecting to the computer to transfer taps etc. I contacted and they responded with the news that TF6000PVR (Wireless LAN PVR) is coming soon. It should be possible to tranfer files to and fro via wireless Lan.
I also asked about the facilities for recording radio hoping that WMA would be supported. They are considering it.

Now that would open up all sorts of possibilites.

Maybe now is the time to add your wishes to the list.

Whom did you contact? Topfield or their UK distributor?

As far as I know so far, the TF6000 is intended for other markets, and doesn't have the MHEG facilities for the UK.

Existing models can record radio ok, in the standard Freeview MPEG2 audio format. Adding proprietary Windows stuff would seem a weird step to me.

On the inside cover of this month's Tele Satellite is an advert for the TF6000PVR.

Trouble is, I cannot find any details of the announcement or details of this box on any of Topfield's website, two of which seem broken.

The TF6000 has been talked about for a while, but I don't think anyone's seen it yet.

It's not a UK DTT model; there is likely to be such a model, which will very likely be called the 6800, and have MHEG too. But the information I have from their UK distributor is that it's likely to be closer to the end of the year than the beginning.

It did, after all, take quite some time to create the 5800 from the 5000PVRt model.

I read somewhere (australian forums) that topfield were dropping support for Taps, is this true? or was it just on a cut down budget toppy?

There is a cheaper version of the Toppy available in Australia, which doesn't support TAPs, and some other things, but there are no plans that I'm aware of to drop support for TAPs. They probably thought there was a space in the market for something a little simpler, and cheaper - the TF5000PVRt is a lot more than the 5800 costs over here.

The original distribution of the TAP compiler is no longer available from Topfield, but that's an entirely different issue, related to software licensing.

And before you wonder how we're creating TAPs without it, a license compliant compiler has been produced, although not by Topfield.
