will blu ray or hd-dvd be able to play full movies in the same quality of what you see the hd tvs in comet running the formula 1 demo loop.ts.

because that hd clip is far better than any wmv-hd clip i have seen. the wmv-hd look like they are slightly soft compared to the super sharp images you get with .ts hd demo clips.

Both Blu-ray and HD-DVD will allow a studio to release HD movies upto 1080p spec using either high bitrate mpeg2, mpeg4 or VC1.
The results may even eclipse broadcast quality HD due to more money/effort being put into cleaning up the original movie source material.

There isn't one

HD-DVD is delayed yet again (for the second time) and that's just for a Japanese/US launch.
Blu-ray at the end of 2006 for Japan so if all goes well sometime in 2007 at the earliest for EU but it should be recordable from day1. Obviously the PS3 may be released in the UK before a standalone Blu-ray player!

Blu-ray will be Spring 2006 pretty much worldwide. PS3 is Spring in Japan and probably worldwide and Blu-ray will be Spring in the USA and europe a few months later. So effectively it'd be a worldwide launch

I'll admit those dates (well seasons) are a surprise, I don't expect to see blu-ray UK spec players until 2007 and that isn't contemplating the cost of first gen hardware.

However I would love to be wrong but I can't see Blu-ray doing any better than the HD-DVD groups in meeting it's "official" launch timetable

PS3 is scheduled for spring 2006, but my guess is it will slip in the UK to the very end of the year. Everyone's assuming they will be around £400.

In real life? They've been demoing them for ages at trade shows

TBH, HD-DVD was always over optimistic and have claimed they'd launch first despite relying on the same technology as Blu-ray. Blu-ray has been Q1 2006 for a long time and has only recently narrowed it to "Spring". I think we'll get a lot more information at the CES in January with possibly launch titles and a more specific date
