Problems with T-Mobile SMS - Anyone?

Hi

Tonight I am in a fowl mood. I am a T-Mobile fanboy, I really am, i'll defend them to the bone.

But for the last week or so, ever text I've sent has taken like 1/2 an hour to be received. I'm not just telling this from delivery reports, but the people I am texting tell me the time they receive the texts and they're just not right.

It's pissing me off so much because I'm relying on these texts to arrange nights out, etc. and i'm having to phone people as the texts aren't working properly - too inconvenient when i'm at work and not really available to talk.

Has anybody else had such problems. If not, it's time for me to plague T-Mobile for an answer!

Many thanks

No problems on T-Mobile for texts here. It may be the network your freinds are on? Perhaps they use O2? Or maybe network congestion at your location?

If they are on O2 or Orange, you've had it they networks go down so badly at christmas and new year time.

last New Years Day i was on T-Mobile and i couldn't phone/send sms and receive calls/sms until around 2 AM. everytime i tried to make a call, my phone would say "Congestion" and the "Network Busy Tone" could be heard.

this year i am on O2, i'll see how that goes

Have you a source to back your claim up? I believe that Orange has the biggest capacity of all UK networks and that O2 hasn't had a major Christmas/New Year network problem now for a few years.

I've been on most networks over the years. BT Cellnet and Vodafone regularly had problems with capacity in built up busy areas at peak times, back in the day. I certainly have not suffered from these problems on any unforgivable scale or for longer than a few minutes in recent years.

I have never suffered capacity problems on T-mobile or Orange, even in Edinburgh or London on New Years eve. I can't comment on Vodafone but o2 have also increased capacity massively in heavily populated areas in recent years. All networks are prone to going down over the festive period, however the entire network won't go down. Problems are usually are in isolated pockets for short periods.

I only know of one incident where I lost coverage entirely for a long period and this was on one2one for about 2hours, in the height of summer this was in 1998.

Hmmm... I agree with you regarding O2 - it's gone down regular as clockwork every new years here. It's record is 36 hours!

As for Orange though... hardly. It even outperformed T-Mobile here last new years, whereas T-Mobile wobbled from about 00.30 until 04.00 Orange worked straight through, just throwing up the odd 'Network Busy' for calls but sending texts straight off

I recieved a text earlier and the time on it was 10 mins before when it came through... i called the person and they had just sent it. So the t-mobile clocks are slow or something!

However, in response to the OP - I can't really say for T-Mobile itself. However, I'm having no problems on Virgin which is powered by T-Mobile... if that's any help

I'm just oging by the amount of people posting here last year about it and just oging from experience that texts on O2 & Orange take longer to send/receive at busy times.

Postings from a few posters on an internet forum hardly qualifies as "fact".

I have recalled Vodafone having had some problems in the past and also O2 when they were BT Cellnet. I can't say that I've ever seen problems on Orange. Usually these problems tend to be localised. And for that reason no-one would ever seem to have too many problems with T-Mobile as very few people around here use them (I only know one person of about 150 - and there's a very special reason for that)

O2 had no problems with the SMSC last year over the Christmas and New year period, so any problems sending SMS was down to people hammering the cell sites and as such will only effect places where capacity has been reached.

I've been with O2 more years than I care to remember and can honestly say I have never known their network to go down completely.

I am always able to send & receive calls & texts at Christmas & New Year, although in the early years not many people had mobile phones and many of those who did were not SMS capable. The most recent time when O2 was not fully available was during the bombings London (it was only areas of London affected) because O2 turned some of their capacity to the emergency services. I believe Vodafone was similarly affected for similar reasons.

A lot of the criticism of O2 you see on these forums appears to orginate from you Steven

I'm just telling it like it is, I have hardly posted in a while about O2, it's other people that post about them.

I'm with the best network now with best UK coverage which is vodafone so I won't have any problems at all.

I thought you were a T-Mobile boy

Oh silly me that was last month
(and you appear to have been through Virgin in the meantime too - I just can't keep up)

Looks like lee18xx is keeping tally though

I moved from T-Mobile as there was no call bundles at all and i needed a call bundle rather than paying 40p/min to other networks.

What about T-Mobile and Vodafone are they exempt?

Though, it is quite plain that your opinion is just that, your opinion. You are not stating facts.

All networks suffer problems at certain points of the year such as Christmas or New Year, however the problems are not across the whole of the network, and are usually confined to areas where cell site capacity has been reached.

Orange have the largest capacity on their cell sites out of all the networks. O2 had no problems with their SMS server last year either so your comments are missleading.

IT will be the case this year, and in 3 years time, that from time to time at busy periods certain services in certain areas are going to not work as well as they could. However this is down to network load. Try opening 50 programs on your computer at the same time and see how it copes.

A small cell site can hold around 50 people, the bigger ones such as the ones in the London area can hold around 150 people making call continously. If hundreds upon hundreds of people in the same area try to all use their phone at the same time then their is bound to be problems.

I didn't think x-network would be a problem to you since everyone you knew was on T-mobile
