Has a Black person ever won a reality TV show in the UK?

A black person did win a reality TV show in the UK. Only because it wasn't down to the public vote.

Colour shouldn't come into it - when I watch the show, I don't think "Ooh, look at that black woman singing", "There goes another white man at it again" or "Goodness, why aren't Asians represented?". Vote for whoever you want to win, but make it about their talent rather than the colour of their skin - I think that's the way they'd want it.

Good point and the Irish black guy that went out because he was too old was a hot favourite for the band too!

Also with girls aloud I have no idea how that Cheryl tweedy girl ever got in, that should have been Javine, that really was suspicious, they obviuosly wanted a solo career for her

I can't say that i really notice. Why should i?
In these days of supposed equality, surely skin colour shouldn't even be an issue.”

I'm sorry I’ve been living on the moon. Could someone calmly explain to me exactly when did Britain became a colour blind society because I missed the transformation period completely

I refer you again to Joseph winning 'Strictly Dance Fever' last year.

And alot of the public voted. Me included.

50 Pence..I don't think people are saying what you think they are saying....of course some people vote based on colour....bizarrely...but I don't truely think that is the majority..and the majority outweighs the minority voters in competitions such as this.

I've been a big supporter of Andy's, but I would hate to see anyone vote for him just because he is black - how patronising would that be for heaven's sake!

People should vote for who they think is best, regaurdless of race. However, it is fair to say that there ARE people out there, unfortunately, who do still judge people by the colour of their skins. It is sad but true.

It has nothing to do with skin colour, people vote for voice and personality ! Addictive Ladies, Chenai and Nicholas all went out because they were the worst on the night and the judges not the public voted them out. How can people say it is about skin colour/race when chico stayed in as long as he did. Brenda was very unlucky, she was the best on the night but voters are mainly teenage girls so that is probably why she went. I do not think the British public are ignorant enough to say "he/she is black I am not voting for them". I personally hope Andy wins tonight as he has a lovely voice and the fact the Simon and Louis think they have it won. The look on their faces last week when Kate called Andys name out 1st was priceless !

I think the only show (in the UK) where I've seen a black person win is on Strictly Dance Fever. His name was Joseph and he danced with Sadie (white).

I do think, however, its got nothing to do with the colour of your skin.

Horrendously no. All I can say to all those who say race card just imagine you were black. It gets even more silly when you consider how well Lemar did and he came 3rd in fame academy. The feeling it leaves black peopple with is second class citizen especially with major events we have seen in the last year, speaking personally its not a nice feeling.

Call me petty but come dancing surely don't count, can't really see it as a mass audienc program. People will argue me wrong. Nice to see though bbc viewers saw the disparity.

Has anyone with cerebral palsy ever won a competition in this country? Oh no, silly me, they were eliminated before the finals!

Yeah, Stars In Their Eyes seniors and juniors has been won by a black guy and a black boy, respectively. Hardly any difference between XFactor and Stars In Their Eyes IMO.

I've never understood why whenever there is a reality show or competition of some kind someone always has to wheel out the race card. Like others have said it's about talent and ability not skin colour. If Andy wins tonight I wonder if there will suddenly be a load of posts saying he only won because of his skin colour??

Also I don't think Andy would like to think he had only won because of the colour of his skin. In fact when you think about it, it's an insult to suggest that is why he is there.

Why stop at skin colour? Have we ever had Oriental people on a main reality show? Where are the welsh people in our soaps? Why aren't there more disabled people on TV? I guess the list is endless and you can say there is always some groups of people who aren't represented.

It shows that prejudice isn't just restricted to the colour of skin.

Based on talent, both the red-head and the black girl would have got in. Unfortunately for Javine, she didn't have a very likeable personality, which I think was entirely independent of any racial issues. There probably are people who are influenced by their existing racial prejudices, and that could explain why black people can do well, but have not yet won.

Some people want to stick their head in the sand.

The truth is the British public are not colour blind.

If you keep denying the obvious truth, the problem will never get solved. The best thing is to admit it. Then the battle is halfway won.

So, exactly when did Britain become a classless colour blind society? 10, 20, 30, years? Sorry I missed it

Since we can only speak as individuals, I've voted for Shayne and Andy this week, and last week I voted for Andy and Brenda and I'm white. These sort of posts stir up resentment rather than contributing to solve the problem of racism IMO

No, the people denying there is any problem at all is what stirs up resentment.

So you don't vote according to colour. But why is it so hard for you to admit that some people do? Because by admitting that it would be admitting there is racism in our society?

You must know there is, segregation is all around us every day.
