I've read about this in the latest edition of the Edition of Doctor Who magazine. Does anyone know what it is?

No but it may yet see the light of day as an extra on the series 2 DVDs. Apparently, the deleted scenes (which were oft mentioned in the commentaries) were "lost" and couldn't be remade in time for the first series box set. I think they are planning to put them out sometime, though.

Presumably, if CE had decided to stay on, there would have had to be an alternate ending. Perhaps it's that.

I would imagine, if Eccleston had been staying in the role, there would have been some conversation about Captain Jack and a lead in to the next series. I expect the planet "Barcelona" might have been mentioned too!

That's what I heard as well.

EDIT: Actually I think it's mentioned on the commentary for Parting Of The Ways what the other ending was.

Maybe it would have ended with a cliffhanger of Rose being near to death, to whet our appetite for series 2?

Its explained on the DVD commentary surely. When they filmed the end of series 1 the world didn't know CE was leaving ............

I thought they had filmed a different ending deliberately to mislead people about what happened (CE leaving)? Basically the same thing, but subtly different.

Before CE decided to leave, I read in quite a few different places that the original ending involved The Doctor and Rose in the console room.

The Doctor had absorbed all the time-energy from Rose (as before). He then told her he has taught her all she needs to know, and then opened the TARDIS doors and leaped into the time vortex (I assume because he thought he was going to explode or something).

And that was going to be the season cliff hanger - Rose alone in the TARDIS and The Doctor flying through the time vortex.

They changed it to the regeneration scene once CE announced he was going and had to re-shoot. As far as I am aware, the only scene they re-shot was the final scene in the console room, so everything leading up to that was exactly the same.

That's what I read anyway.

Tut, tut. The BBC really should take more care with their archives - with particular reference to Doctor Who.

Quite! Unless they plan to milk us poor fans of our hard earned cash with another DVD release with the 'missing' extras!

If the boxset has sold well perhaps the BBC will finally consider releasing the classic series in the same format..season by season. They could still release the stories as individual DVD's for those who wanted both as there would be a market for them..and more money for the BBC coffers!

Which they could plough back into making even more Doctor Who.

It's a win-win situation!

Nice idea, BG.

(And I hear the boxed-set is doing extremely well. Someone posted that it was in the pre-order top ten of several well-known e-tailers.)

Then BBC take note boxsets may be the way forward and you can still release stories as individual DVD's which is what they did with the last series.
