DVD-R 4x disks for Panasonic E85?
Brash MacLean
18-12-2005
Hi - I've had a Panasonic DMR-E85 for about 18 months now and need to buy some more blank DVD-Rs to use with it. It's nearly a year since I last got any and when I did, I accidentally got some TDK 8x disks that I found didn't work in my machine. It's rated up to 4x so I assumed that was the reason so I replaced them with some 4x disks from Panasonic's own website, which were fine.

I'm now alarmed to find that no-one seems to sell 4x disks any more - not even Panasonic themselves.

I've tried www.cdr-media.co.uk, dabs, amazon, PCWorld, and others without success.

Does anyone know of DVD-R disks that they know will work in my machine? I can't believe it's obsolete already - only 18 months after I bought it.

Thanks for any pointers or advice on this.

Thanks for the encouraging reply buy I'm curious in that case why the TDK 8x disks I got last year didn't work.

Any ideas? If it wasn't the speed that was the problem, then there must be something else I need to look out for and avoid, which I'm unaware of.

Apols for my ignorance on this subject!

I use 8x Verbatim discs in my E85 - the ones with the TY dye that are available from SVP.

They work ok, however, my DVD drive appears to be on it's way out. Worryingly, this doesn't appear to be uncommon from what I've seen online.

If you're worried about compatibility, you can get Pansonic discs rated at 1-8x speed for £9.99 per 25 + P&P.
