Panasonic DMR-ES10 - How do I display time remaining on DVD playback ?
Nailz

Is there a way to show the time remaining on a DVD that is playing ? When I press the Status button it shows the elapsed time, but often I want to see how long I have left of a film.

I am suprised that they seem to have missed this option off as my other cheap DVD players both have it.

I have had a look and pressed everything and cannot find out if it will do this either. I have noticed that there are quite a few simple things missing on this DVD and remote.

Zoom:- Quite liked this feature but no sign on the Panny.
Subtitle button:- The only way seems to be through display? to turn it on. Very awkward.
Clock:- anyone else noticed that you cannot change the front display to clock when you record or playback?
Time remaining:-as you mention, I found this useful as well.

I think it is very poor when a named product like Panasonic seems to have fewer features than cheaper brands (certainly on the DMRES10). I know my old dvd player (over 7 years old) has all of these features. Another feature I liked was to see what Mbps was going through the player.

As technology progresses I feel we seem to be getting less and less for the money. As a recorder it is ok, a good replacement for the vcr. Overall though I am a little disappointed at the lack of features I would now expect as a basic standard.

Hey - how about 'less is more'?

Remember when photocopiers simply photccopied? You put a piece of A4 paper in, pressed the green button and - Hey Presto - it copied! Now they seem to want to do all sorts of fancy stuff - back to back, staple, fold, zoom, make the tea, forecast the weather, etc, etc.

Yes, the Panny is simple, but maybe that's no bad thing! Something that is good at what it does (btw I do agree with the lack of 'subtitle' button however )

I emailed Panasonic about the Time Remaining and got this reply:

Quote:
“Thank you for your e-mail enquiry. Firstly, please accept my sincere
apologies for the uncharacteristic delay in our response. Due to an
unexpected increase in the number of contacts we have recently received, we
have been unable to provide as speedy a response as we would normally.

I am sorry to learn that there are some aspects to the operation of the
above unit which have caused you some disappointment.

In response, I would explain that Panasonic has no plans to provide an
upgrade to enable the unit to show disc time remaining. There is no action
that can be taken at this time to alter the design of this product to meet
with your specific suggestions. However, I will, of course, pass a copy of
your letter to our audio product marketing department for their interest in
future designs.

I am sorry that Panasonic cannot be of assistance to you in your enquiry.
However, I trust that, despite this aspect to the product, you may enjoy
optimum performance.
”

I still think the machine is good though and highly recommend it.

Have you got an email address for them or can you point me in the right direction to contact them re compatible DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW discs?

Having problems finalising discs so that they play on other DVD recorders / players.
