In 1984 (when I was a wee nipper of 15) a young guy called Sam Harris won an American TV talent show called Search For A Star.

Throughout this whole series of X Factor Shayne has reminded me of him, cuz of his super-high, falsetto, voice. It seems Louis must've felt the same, cuz the arrangement of Over The Rainbow he gave Shayne to sing, is pretty much IDENTICAL to Sam's 1984 version (which won him the show). I remember seeing it way back then and it's stuck with me all these years. So, when I heard Shayne... right from the opening chords to that huge rising note at the end... IDENTICAL. Thing is, a lot of people will think this was an original arrangement... it wasn't!

If you can get a hold of the Sam Harris version... you'll see how similar they are. ;o)

(Incidentally, I prefer Shayne's voice to Sam's).

I thought Shayne sang that fantastically, and am not bothered who he sounded like. In fact, I thought Andy sang Me and Mrs Jones superbly too, and he sounded exactly the same as the original singer Billy Paul. They were both great.

I don't deny his performance was show-stoppingly powerful, etc, blah, blah... but I just wanted to let folks know it wasn't an original arrangement. I've heard so many people raving about Shayne's 'interpretation' of the song and about how 'original' it was... I just wanted to set the record straight.

Thanks for this. This is the name I couldn't remember.

I have mentioned this on another thread.

I only heard this version a couple of years ago when I was 13/14 and didn't realise it was in fact 20 years old.

this song should have been sung first, JS and Andy both sang their 'new' songs first and I fully agree it is like SH
