The Daily Mirror has a story on Shayne and his father. Apparently he is in prison for rape.

For goodness sake this is old news and his brother got off a murder charge and his mother has an ASBO against her but hey this isn't x- factor and family. We voted for a talented singer and to heck with his family background

You wouldn't get this in Strictly Come Dancing during the cha-cha-cha!

When I look at Shayne's family, it amazes me that he seems so normal. The rest of them are an embarrassment - but they are his family, and he loves them. I think he should be judged on who HE is, and on his talent. Some of us will like him, and some won't. But this hatred of him because he was perceived to be the chosen one isn't fair on him. That's not his fault - even if it *is* true.

Well said rebella!

Shayne would have known that if/when he got to the final - or even well before given the tabloid newspapers nature - his background would be under the microscope.

Fair play to him, well done for trying out - and winning - the x factor!

After all, he isn't guilty of anything, is he??????

Shayne put himself up for public scrutiny.

I'm disgusted that posts about his family are allowed to prevail on this forum.
Shayne signed the contract........his family didn't.

To be fair - his family turned up at the shows, allowed themselves to be filmed in their home, and gave interviews. I don't think they are exactly keeping themselves out of the lime light.

And ANYONE who is in the public eye will have their background dug into and discussed - I feel sorry for them, but I think you're overreacting a bit!

It can't have been easy growing up as the son of a convicted rapist (or being the daughter or wife of a rapist). I think we should cut Shayne and his family some slack. I find it astonishing that Shayne has turned out as well as he has. I think his mother, even if she doesn't look like everyone's idea of the perfect mother, must take a lot of credit for that.

Rubella - All the Finalists were filmed in their homes, with the judges. They were all at the Studio, watching them week in, week out. So what?

I wish people would leave him alone. He has the X-Factor, he won the show. get over it.

Oi! I'm rEbella, not the German measles!!!

And I am delighted for Shayne that he won - I've wanted him to win since I first clapped eyes and ears on him.

I was merely defending the right of people in this forum to discuss his family, rather than grant them complete anonymity just because they are not as *respectable* as the families of the other contestants.

Are any other families being held up to public scrutiny?

The fact is that he is going to be in the news till he dies out like Steve Brookstein. Are we then supposed to ignore the headlines and not discuss the matter at all

BTW, the record company, managers, etc are responsible for leaking some of these stories just to keep their artist in the public subconscious

Only in that everyone has been saying how nice they are - and presumably not as *newsworthy!!*.

On the subject of my name, btw - it's a nickname given to me BY a German, as my normal username is rebel. I think that the similarity to the word for German measles may not have escaped his notice!! hehe.

The media have a lot to do with this . If they don't print these stories I guess we won't go and dig them out ourselves . They really do go too far but these zeleb-wannabes are well aware of the status quo.

I am not stirring - unless stating my opinion is deemed to be stirring by those who disagree with it.

And I'm a fan of Shayne's by the way, and voted over and over for him. That make you any happier?

I wasn't the one who posted the thread, and as a very occasional visitor here, was not aware that many threads had been done to death or closed about it. If you read back, I think I've only made one post that is less than complimentary about his family, and I've defended Shayne's right to be considered for who *he* is, not his family. I've merely been discussing the issue of whether it is wrong to ever mention someone's background on a forum such as this, if the said family have been happy to put themselves in the public eye.
