Hey,

Now I realise that this is a long-shot, but I heard an old song the other week on the radio, and I need help identifying it. The problem is, I've got no idea what the song is called or who the artist is.

I think it was released in the early-mid 90's, during the brit-rock explosion. It's in the same kind of vein as The La's and Radiohead - the only lyrics I can remember are from the chorus, and they go something like: "oooooooh, tell someone(?) i love her. Tonight...yeah."

I know it's a very vague description, but I've trawled google and my old compilation albums and haven't came up with anything. I've also e-mailed the radio station, but never received a reply. I'd really appreciate any responses that'll help shed some light on the matter.

Cheers!

I like the idea of something being "in the same vein as The La's and Radiohead". Jangly guitars, catchy melodies, and the sound of a small animal being horribly tortured by robots in a disused trombone factory. A hit!

The only thing I can think of is Crazy Beat by Blur, that says "I love her tonight, yeah" but the bit before is nothing like what you said, it says "I love my sister" !! so I'm probably entirely wrong anyway lol sorry I can't help any further.

Thanks for the help, but unfortunately, I still haven't tracked it down. It's more of a slow depressing type of song, kind of like Cast's "Walk Away". I might have the lyrics wrong, so I'm not holding out much hope. I've noted that number though, so if I hear it again, I'll run straight to the speaker!

Is there anything else you can tell us? Even the smallest thing? Male singer? Female? What kind of voice - high or low?

Is there a guitar riff or a piano riff? Where did you hear it? The place you heard it will give us a clue.

It was a male singer, with a slightly high-pitched voice. There's a guitar riff in there too. I actually heard the song playing over the radio in the hair-dressers, lol. I knew it sounded familiar, but I couldn't clearly make out any lyrics because of the noise in there.

I'm pretty certain that the lyrics "yeah....tonight" are in there though. But I might be mixing up "tonight" with "that's right" or something like that. I might be way off, but I'm getting a flash-back to a black and white, moody music video, similar to Coldplay's "Trouble" video.
I've heard the song being played on Kirsty's Home Videos too, awhile back, but didn't get any luck when I tried tracking it down then. I'm fairly certain it's a British band, with a release time-frame possibly being between '94-'97.

Vague details I know, I'm trying to rack my brains to think up as much as I can remember about it.

Just wondering, not British but around at that time: could it be Tonight, Tonight by Smashing Pumpkins? Male voice, bit high pitched, jangly guitar riff...

I think it's, 'Tonight', by Supergrass.

Check the lyrics here - see if it rings any bells.

Wow, thanks so much guys, I've finally tracked it down! It's been bugging me for ages now, and I've finally cracked it, little_dr_ted was correct, it's Song for the Lovers by Richard Ashcroft. I'd obviously mistaken the lyrics, so thanks so much for figuring out! Again, can't thank you guys enough!

i find it bizarre that it WAS that song when you compare the lyrics you posted to the lyrics of the song.....I think I got it from the "love her/lovers.....tonight" part.

Well done for working it out. I spent twenty-four hours with the tune of Tonight, Tonight playing inside my head before I could work out what it was - and then it wasn't the right one!
