Just wondered if anyone was about to use videoplus with PDC using the Flexible Record.

I have put a Videoplus Code in and as standard it displays PDC as off and whatever your disc quality is set to.

If you change quality to Flexible rec and leave PDC off then the timer record works. However if I set the quality to FR then PDC to ON it gives me invalid timer message.

I thought I had done this very thing recently but cannot get the Flexible record to work with PDC.

Can anyone clear up whether it works for them when they enter the Videoplus code. It seems a little strange as I would have thought it would allow this as if you had a few recordings I would choose Flexible Record and PDC ON just it cause it started late.

managed to try this on a 2nd unit and it does the same thing so it seems that flexible record cannot work with PDC set to ON. Seems strange and I not sure what would make the difference to stop this from working as the record time would be the same.

On another note, I have not recorded on DVD Ram yet, but just reading through the manual seems to suggest that you cannot get the unit to create chapters at a regular interval. I have seen other brands actually create a chapter at regular intervals you can set yourself. With the Ram discs it seems that you have to manually go through your disc and set your own. Great if you like sort of thing but wasn't these things supposed to make life easier? I don't fancy going through a recording of several hours putting my own chapters in, never mind the stress of constantly using the drive.

If this is incorrect then I hope I can be pleasantly corrected.

With PDC the actual programme duration can be controlled by the broadcaster, so in theory if a programme overruns then it can still be recorded. FR mode requires the recording time to be fixed.

I think what the Panasonics lack is a recording time of 3 hours. Its a shame you are not allowed to have the option to set you own hours/minutes you want from the disc. So if I want a disc to be recordable for 3 hrs it can be, the same for 5 hours or 7 hours. Rather than just the 1/2/4/6 & 8 hr options. (hope this is clear)

I think this should be easy possible seeing as they have flexible record which can vary the length a disc will record, and could be put in the menu option where EP can be altered from 8 to 6hrs, so we could have the options of 1-8hrs.

Also note that Flexible Recording doesn't work with EXT LINK recordings (page 18 in manual).
