I know CD's have better quality and I wouldn;t get rid of them but who likes me misses the days of Albums?

Big things you could hold in your hand; great covers; only 8 songs so you didn't get all second rate fillers you get these days (or they come out later as "unreleased")

Yes, they got scratched; they warped if not properly stored.

But record shopes just raen't the same without them

My feelings exactly.

I waxed lyrical on this topic a few months ago, as did several others.

I do miss albums having two sides, seemed to give them more 'structure'. Although some bands do make them in sides, like 'Elephant' (that would have been a double album mind).

I certainly don't miss them.

I got 2 delivered today (ok, one album and one single). In the past 6 months I've bought many more vinyl albums than CDs.

I dont miss the bad things about albums, such as crackles and jumps but do like the covers and artwork.

When will record companies realise that to convert an analog old recorded album you need to remaster it properly to suit a digital medium? So many albums have been completely spoiled in the transfer to CD because companies just cant be bothered to do this. It makes the recording sound flat and very inferior to the vinyl version when not properly remastered.

I think that's waer companies have missed a trick. I don't fondly remember Vinyl because of the sound etc. It's the fact that I had something which looked great and felt worth the money. Record shops (remember them? I mean proper record shops - I used to shop in Downtown Records in Ilford)

That'w why downloads don't appeal to me - yes I get the music (of inferior quality to CD) fast - but I don;thave anything to hold

I think stylus r quite good now & don't wear out that quickly. Presumably you can still get them considering how many 'djs' there are around.

for the younger ones turntablists

Although CD has the better sound quality, I love vinyl. There is nothing like putting a record on and listening to the crackle before the music starts (maybe that's just me though!).

I agree !

Aah, sitting down, telling the younger generation how much better it was in the old days, bet you didn't think you would get old this quick

Miss vinyl? Where has it gone?

I still buy most of my albums on vinyl. Virtually every new album I've wanted has been released on vinyl - usually available on Amazon, but with indie labels it's often possible to buy direct as well.

Modern vinyl seems to have improved a lot over the older stuff in terms of quality as well. Audio quality isn't an issue with decent equipment (in fact, very decent vinyl equipment tends to yield better quality than CD, to my ears). And someone mentioned jumping earlier... if you take care of your records and set up your system properly, there's no reason why your records should ever jump.

Are you serious? Turntables, cartridges and styli are all still in mass production. I use these, which should fit any turntable with a standard headshell:
http://www.shure.com/phono/m97xe.asp (for hi-fi use only though. Not suitable for DJ use).

The only real problem with vinyl is the cost. In most cases, vinyl album releases seem to cost more than their CD counterparts. And whereas you can pick up a half-decent CD player for about £100 now, a nice vinyl set-up could set you back £500...
