I believe the question has been asked but I have not seen a reply. Can anyone please advise the significance of the criticism in What Hi Fi that this model does not have a digital video connection. What does this mean in terms of connecting a digital camcorder? It seems to have a firewire out but not a firewire in. In simple terms what does this mean. Any help much appreciated.

It does have firewire in - but not out - so you can connect your digital camcorder to it to dub from the camera to the HD but not back again. By missing digital out I assume they mean it does not have an HDMI connection. This is the digital equivalent of a scart socket carrying digital sound and video. It means you cannot get the maximum quality if you have a display with an HDMI input. I do not think it will become a real problem unless you are committed to a fully digital High Definition set up. The 910 does have HDMI. That and a slightly larger hard disc are the only differences. Of more importance (to me) was that both lack RF out. The Panasonic has that!

I've just used the DV input to dub a camcorder tape to the HD. It works really well, you just press the one touch dub button on the sony and it automatically rewinds the camcorder tape and copies the whole thing to hard disc.

What are the disadvantages of not having an RF out?

If you want to send the output to other TVs in other parts of the house, then RF is the most convenient way. You lose stereo sound but in my case the second TV is a 15" mono portable in the conservatory. With RF out I just daisy chain the RF loop from the aerial, via the Sky+ and the DVD/HD to the second TV so that it can receive both. In fact of course you can buy an RF modulator to take the audio and composite video from one of the scart outs of the Sony. No real hassle just another box and extra money. I was 50-50 between the Sony and the Panny and the RF thing just tipped the balance.

Can anyone with the 910 tell me how muh of a difference in picture quality there is between Scart and the HDMI output.

Is it jaw dropping or just a marginal improvement.

I would like to use the DVI IP on my 37"LCD but only willing to fork out a loada cash if there is a big difference.

At the mo I have a Techosonic 101 and was hoping to be able to use this to tide me over until the killer package arrives (for me this would the the 910 but with 2 tuners) but may go for a 910 sooner.
