Westlife- now always covers
want2know?
20-12-2005
All Westlife seem to sing now is covers! Even 'You Raise Me Up' has been released before and was ment to be about God! Are they ever going to release an original song?

I thought they had only ever done covers. I'm probably wrong but i cant honestly think of any songs they have sung which wasn't.

I think they are one of the worst groups ever and that is saying something. BUT people seem to like them, something I find almost impossible to comprehend. Makes me want to weep when someone wonderful like Beverley Knight or Richard Ashcroft can't sell anywhere near the amount of records Westlife do.

OK I really don't like Westlife but they have released a few songs that aren't covers (all cack though!!!) World of Our Own, Flying Without Wings, If I Let You Go, Bop Bop Baby (that HAS to be the worst!) etc etc

I'm a big fan of theirs. They have done a few covers but they are good versions.

The songs that they have releases so far are:
[list][*]Swear It Again[*]If I Let You Go[*]Flying Without Wings[*]I Have A Dream/Seasons In The Sun (Cover)[*]Fool Again[*]Against All Odds (Cover)[*]My Love[*]What Makes A Man[*]Uptown Girl (Cover)[*]Queen Of My Heart[*]World Of Our Own[*]Bop Bop Baby[*]Unbreakable[*]Tonight/Miss You Nights[*]Hey Whatever[*]Mandy (Cover)[*]Obvious[*]You Raise Me Up (Cover)[*]When You Tell Me That You Love Me (Cover)

Released in Europe NOT United Kingdom and Ireland:
[*] I Lay My Love On You/When You're Looking Like That

Substitute the word covers for crap and I would agree with your thread entirely.

The thing about Westlife is, all their songs sound the same. So I really can't remember anything they've done expect for Flying without wings (thankfully). Honestly I can't name you one Westlife song expect for that one.

That's their only "classic" song really.

They are really bland, I class them within the same league as Katie Melua. I mean really bland music, bland everything. They never appealed to me as a pre teen and not now as a teenager. Their fanbase seem to be women in their mid-twenties to early thirties.

If you think Westlife are in the same category as Katie Melua then you really need to get out more. Katie is a highly talented musician who writes her own stuff whilst Westlife are simply crap. I'm no fan of Katie Melua but comparing her to that lot is simply incorrect.

So out of 20 releases theres been 6 covers! thats a very high percentage!! cant think of another band whos done that many.

I think they are really awful though, the main two can sing to a degree, and if they wrote their own songs...or at least released their own records it would be ok.

What are they covering next? They havent murdered any Queen yet...neither done a Madonna....

So can we expect a double A side of Bohemian Rapsody and Crazy For You (shudders at the prospect)

They've released 8 covers from that list at least, miss you nights was also a cover. Almost half their songs are covers, I really hate that band.

Its surely their last album now? I think they realise they are on their way out and are trying to rake in the last bit of cash from this album, a little farewell tour and then bye bye westlife.

It annoys me that a band are allowed to enter Record of the Year witha cover version. Its a cop out, especially when they win. No wonder so many bands cover tunes now, safe bet!

Is this the same one the Seekers once sang and which was written by Tom Springfield? If it is then it's a cover.

Miss you nights is a cover and Hey Whatever is a cover sort of. It was originally a song called "Rainbow Zephir" by a northern Irish band. it's the same tune they just changed the lyrics.
Didn't they have an album of rat pack swing covers there recently?
Were there any singles off that?

No singles were released....

that was an utterly pointless venture as well: Robbie Williams had already done a Swing album 2 years before...so if the public wanted a modern Swing album they could have one, he performed it with much more charisma than Wetlife as well.

Just because she writes her own stuff doesn't mean she's any good.

The Cheeky Girls mother wrote their songs, but talent is not a word I would use to describe them just for that.

And playing an instrument doesn't mean you sh*t gold.

You need charisma, and poor Katie has none of that. And if she has, then I must have fell asleep when she begun to be interesting in her various tv mini promos.
