Superb album. Not as good as Agaetis Byrjun mind.

For me, this is the greatest album of all time. It's packed with emotion, and that's what music is all about to me. So much of the music I hear today is seemingly produced to act as little more than a very noisy metronome to help drunken chavs keep time while they shake their thang on the dancefloor. Sometimes I seriously have to wonder if anyone would notice if the DJ just played the same song all night (maybe they do, I don't know).

That's why 'Takk...' comes as such a relief to me. Each track takes me to its own unique place and makes me actually feel something. I've always been a fan of Sigur Rós, particularly the whimsical wizadry of Ágćtis Byrjun and the dark desolation of (), but I think Takk... is their most complete work to date. For the most part, it's happy, but it doesn't lack contrast. I found () beautiful, but it left me feeling quite empty and alone. I always find the new album uplifting though, regardless of how I'm feeling before I hear it. It really makes life feel beautiful.

I can understand that it won't be to everyone's taste, but I think everyone should at least give it a try.

I loved the first album but it was a meal in itself. Now I find that whole "we are weird" thing (© Barney Sumner) a bit irritating. When it comes to oddball Europeans I prefer Dungen and their prog-rock wig-outs.

had their second album, but never got into it too much, and only recently bought takk.. after seeing their brilliant performance on later....

absolutely brilliant album - hoppipolla is probably my favourite.

have tickets to see them live in march, so can't wait for that. there's a review, photos and indeed stream of a whole concert they did recently in reykjavik here.

if you like sigur ros, you might also like slowdive - british indie band from the early 90s if you don't know them :

this was probably their best album.

Weird thing, this. You see very very few listener reviews that are anything less than ecstatic, but yet they sell in (relatively) miniscule amounts. Could it be that the vast majority of their fans are incredibly vocal about their favourite band, but there aren't actually that many of them? It's always puzzled me.

I have ( ), but not Takk or Agaetis Byrjun (yet).

They're so good that they've gone to top spot in my last.fm artist chart, even though I listened to my first SR track in early October

I hope Santa brings me HMV/Fopp/Virgin vouchers so I can buy more of their albums

me too - thought it was just the one show in london, but they've added a second london date, and one night in manchester.

have you seen them before? really wanted to see them at glastonbury a couple of years ago, but ended up seeing someone else.

I like Takk. I have seen them live (back in 2001 at Radiohead's south park gig in oxford) they are pretty intense. Though they did give me a headache if that was anything to do with me standing in the inner barrier bit, i don't really know.
It was one of those good music headaches. If you get the chance to see them live, then do so. They didn't have long enough on stage when i saw them, but then again they did have to squeeze in Humphrey and his Jazz band, two local bands, Supergrass, Beck and Lard in, before Radiohead took to the stage.
