I guess in the absence of a TV tuner above would not be possible so the million dollar question is how to get around to this?
I would be grateful for your views/input

The Toppy is designed only to record directly from its own built in tuners. If you can't get a digital signal for the channel you want to record, you can't record it.

All twin tuner Freeview PVRs work like this.

You can get around it, but it would be awkward and time consuming.
first of all buy an analogue TV tuner for your P.C, and record anaolgue TV onto your P.C.
convert the recording on your P.C to a .rec format that the toppy will play.
transfer the file to the toppy, and it will ( should) play.

there are probably easier solutions, that dont involve a topfeild, but as far as im aware topfeild only make recievers/recorders for digital TV ( satelite and terestial)

Do you still have a VCR? Couldn't you feed the output from that via scart/composite to the Topfield?

the topfeild and most other PVRs will only record from the tuners, and not from an external source.
unless the source happens to be a P.C transfering the recording in a format the PVR will play via USB.

Freeview PVRs simply read the incoming digital data and record it directly to the hard disk.

If you want to record from an external source you need to buy a non Freeview PVR like a Tivo.

Or *any* DVD recorder. If you get one with a hard drive you get some of the Freeview-PVR type functions anyway (but you're obviously limited to one tuner operation)
