Girls Aloud, I reckon Europe would like their brand of pop.

If Westlife were to represent Ireland, it'd be a test of their popularity in Europe (I strongly suspect we or rather Westlife fans in the UK would give Ireland, twelve points).

I don't think the Irish Eurovision committee would chance it....just in case they win! Plus they're probably a pricey act to hire.

The Irish seem content with not bothering too hard for the past few years. I wonder if they're still paying for the costs of staging three successive Eurovisions in a row?

Would Louis Walsh risk the potential humiliation? I doubt the gobshite would even dare.

Precious anyone?

This is for Eurovison?!

I'd put in Girls Aloud - repectable, good music, but still a bit camp - Europe would go mad for it!

not a chance. You have to sign live on Eurovision and that completely rules out Girls aloud.

Have they ever sung live as a group?

YES! They sung live on Paul O Grady just the other week and on their sell out tour they did as well! They sing live loads.

Although to be fair, Ireland are entering Brian Kennedy for Eurovision this year, and are having a nationwide search for the best song. Brian Kennedy is an excellent live performer and perfect for Eurovision as well as being popular in Europe.

If they were trying to avoid winning, they would have shown no concern whatsoever about their terrible results this year, which they have.

Also, I'd be prepared to bet alot of money that Tony Christie will show up in the UK final for Eurovision next year!

He's tried to revive his career after Amarillo and good for him, but it hasn't really worked has it?

Eurovision is the classic "last resort". Be prepared to see him next year!

Even if he's good though, ESC voting has gone so shit. Ireland have to get through the semi-finals again this year and I shouldn't think they will.

Last year's voting was an absolute shambles although I think the best act won.

They don't all hate us! Malta, Cyprus and Ireland like us! But our songs have been bad though in the last few years. In the Junior Eurovision last year we did very well so the reason for us doing so bad can't all be to do with politics.

Only the French hate us

That is true and I think that both the UK and Ireland have both had their chances seriously damaged along with most Western European countries.

However, a good performance from a well-established act like Brian Kennedy would (and has often in the past) picked up quite a few "second place" votes and I think it could well give Ireland their best result since the winning-streak. Although I must admit there's definately no danger of ESC coming to London or Dublin next year!

In reply to another post - get ready for Chico at ESC next year! It sounds very very likely!

Seriously? I highly doubt he would go that low.

Too true. Eurovision voting has always been political, and since we invaded Iraq, we're none too popular on the international stage. Hell, even I hate us.

Ireland are sending Brian Kennedy next year, whom I love! So maybe, after not getting through this year, they are taking it serious! - Steph
