Is there anyone else in here who has an interest in music from less-recognised parts of the world. I mean not like Euro-pop or Latin Dance music, but things such as Indian Raga music or Qawwali music.

Most people who have heard some of the music I've bought after having been to various countries don't even think it should be classed as music. Admittedly some of it is hard to get your ears attuned to (especially overtone singing from Mongolia and Siberian Russia), but once you do, the range of music and styles is so much greater than your standard pop.

Ah it's this old chestnut of what constitutes music. I know many peopl elaugh at John Cage's 4 mintues 33 - which consists of 4 minutes and 33 seconds of silence. But he was trying to make the point that it is impossible to define music in simplistic terms.

I have very wide tastes in music and I am always open to listening to some unual pieces.

Andy Kershaw on R3 Fiday nights is a must for me; the MD recorder earns its worth for this alone.

V. wide selection, incl. [strangely] a track from the new Dolly Parton album on Friday. AK seems to cover most bases tho, with a leaning to African rhytms. Recommended.

I've just finish a GCSE in music and world music was part of it. I can say some world music is alright but for others I'll stick to western style. (Chinese music sounds out of tune)
