Sound Problems with Panasonic HD Plasma

Hi all

I recently purchased a Panasonic 37" High Definition Plasma and think the pictures are brilliant on all channels I flick to.

I have noticed something really annoying though. If I sit close when watching say Sky I can hear sound interference from another source. Although it is quiet it is still annoying.

I have utilized all scart sockets at the back. One is for Sky, one for my Panasonic DVD/ Hard drive /recorder and one for another satellite system.

Is it due to the quality of the scarts that I am using? What can I do to fix the problem?

Regards and Merry Christmas to all.

Almost certainly your SCART leads. If you have got the bog standard cables, chances are there is only one screen surrounding all 21 wires, when you have a few of these connected they can cross-talk which gives interference on picture and/or sound. I'd suggest changing your SCART leads for some nice quality ones, that have each core individually screened. These don't have to cost the earth, and most independent retaillers (like Euronics Centres or Sony Centres) should be able to advise you. Its certainly not going to do any harm to try them, you've got a beauty of a TV, so its not worth spoiling it for the sake of a few extra quid for good cables.

Maybe if you're good Santa might bring you some?

Wow - what a fast reply! Ok thanks for the tip. Looks like a visit to my local Bennetts electrical store is long overdue

I think I'm well past Santa visiting me. My halo did a runner years ago

You're right it is a beauty though if you're viewing side on you can see a 'second outline' on a dark screen. For example white credits on black background really shows up. I take it this due to the double glass screen.

Yes I know - "Don't sit side on then". This can be difficult when we have a full house and I get the cheap seats

Regards

This 'double image' problem could also be a symptom of your SCART leads - particularly when you are watching Sky through the SCART connection, and have Sky also outputting on another SCART to your DVDR. My mother was grumbling some time ago that she could see 'shadows' behind her pictures which showed more on black backgrounds - a quick swap of the SCART leads to some good quality ones totally cured it.
