Kirsty Warks Newsnight interview with the guy is on the BBC News Website.

If you were in any doubt that he is on a one way ticket to total self destruction you won't be after seeing this. Rambling, incoherent and clearly taking no responsibility for his life. Very, very sad.

Yes it's very sad. Hard to tell how much of the incoherence is drug-induced and how much is a defence against the questions and the pain that his break-up from Kate Moss is clearly causing him. You have to ask whether chucking the ring at him was the best way to get him off drugs.

Interesting that Kirstie Wark compares him with George Best. Compared with Best in his cups, Doherty is a paragon of sobriety and a thoughtful, polite interviewee.

Very very sad, but surely a sobering lesson for the kids?

'Rambling and incoherent?' He's a damn sight less so than plenty of 'sober' people I've seen interviewed, including a great many politicians. Most pop stars come across as being considerably less thoughtful.

Doherty comes across as very sad and downcast, admits to still taking drugs and does seem unclear about who is responsible for his problems. However he also comes across as coherent, articulate and polite. He also states that his future creative achievements will overshadow his current reputation.

Whether or not he'll succeed is another matter, but the point is that he hasn't given up, and for anyone watching dispassionately, this interview should do nothing to worsen his reputation.

Polite, I would agree with. But coherent and articulate?? Did you watch the interview from the beginning, Ruby? Specifically when Wark asked him if he was still doing crack cocaine?

Thanks SGE, I had missed that snippet.
Dougherty is also a dodgy fortune teller. Maybe he will clean himself up as successfully as Boy George after an autobiography,

Mums gone to Iceland, er sorry, rehab.

Yes, such an intelligent, thoughtful man.
I hope he can get himself sorted out in 2006.
There's a sublime talent there that should not be thrown away.

Yes I did. He briefly quotes some lyrics at that point. And sorry, but it's extremely obvious that they're only lyrics.

I agree...I think he's a talented lad who is wasting what he's got. I hope he can sort himself out and stop being so selfish. He's got a serious problem and I can sympathise with him more than Robbie Williams who talks about how 'troubled' he is as he swans around his LA mansion

Pete is out to lunch, he has been found out to be leeching, a true junkie regardless of what he has to give to the world (in the future).

Check out 'resume' and 'income'.

For anyone to believe anything he says while he remains outside of a clinic shows the gullibility of the public, not the genius of the person.

I saw the interview with Kirsty Wark the other day and felt really sad. The guy is totally messed up. You can tell Kirsty genrally felt pity for him.

He is a very intelligent guy but the drugs have messed him up which is a shame.
