Dial Plans
I'm trying to understand dial plans better. Can someone explain what my default is telling me please?
(*xx|[3469]11|0|00|[2-9]xxxxxx|1xxx[2-9]xxxxxxS0|xxxxxxxxxxxx.) And I had to pinch someone else's dial plan temporarily tonight to dial New Zealand as I couldn't figure out how to dial internationally on this default plan. Thanks. |

Right I've found out what it means, brief explanation -
The | is a divider between sections. The brackets open and close the plan. This is a North American dial plan, and the *xx refers to if * is dialled then expect 2 numbers. If 3, 4, 6 and 9 is dialled, you can expect 11 (as in 411 for directories, 911 for emergency etc). If 0 is dialled go straight through for the operator. 00 goes straight through as well. If the numbers 2-9 are dialled, expect 6 more digits (unless rule 3469 applies) for a local number. If 1 is dialled, expect 3 more numbers (for an area code), followed by any number between 2-9, followed by 6 more numbers then Straight Out (is telling the router don't wait for any more numbers just dial as there won't be more than this number of digits). The last part with all the x's means expect this number of digits, but the . means there could be more so carry on dialling (don't dial SO) until it makes a connection. So now I understand that better, I've changed it all. Hope that explanation helps anyone else using a dial plan (and because I have a direct landline to directories, it means I can now use 192 to go straight through free as it used to be hehe!). And as Bextech has pointed out in another thread, you don't need to dial the full local code for your area with the correct dialplan. |

Found this link which seems to have a good breakdown of how to setup dial plans for the PAP2 and Sipura products.
