...Darkness, or The Darkness. RTD said it had cropped up a couple of time in series 1, the Darkness is mentioned in The Unquiet Dead and somewhere later on in the series, possibly The Empty Child or The Doctor Dances (can't remember exactly). It was also very clearly mentioned tonight about 1/3 of the way through the show.

Is this about The Darkness?

I thought it was
Spoiler
Torchwood, too

Torchwood was just mentioned tonight and they'll drop hints about it to build up some hype about the series. The story arc is different in series 2. Whatever it is it involves:

Spoiler
The Daleks, The Cybermen and an alternate earth

Blimey speculation is starting early! i, too, suspected
Spoiler
Torchwood
but bugger knows to be honest. If Russell T Davies said it had been mentioned in series 1, do we know if it has been referred to?

Just reread that and think i've had too much wine, it barely makes sense. Sorry!

Well Shayne covered it in the X-factor and both Dr Who and the X-factor the winner's story are on Xmas day!

That and how I can manage to get a plug in for it on ITV2 at 9:00pm on a Dr Who thread!

Watch all of series 1 through the week, and listen out for "darkness" being mentioned. Then watch tonight's episode again next week, and you'll find that the word sticks out like a sore thumb.

Maybe that links in with the rumour of Chris Evans playing the Devil, perhaps THATS the season finale.

Torchwood is the name of the proposed spinoff series so it was bound to be mentioned a couple of times, I didn't pick up on any other keywords though.

It might have been my imagination, but I thought that when the Doctor first breathed out the energy stuff (to give it its scientific name!) and it was shown drifting up into space, I heard a voice whisper something as it disppeared into space.

anyone else hear that?

Tea, ginger, and energy into space are worth remebering.

Or Raiders of the Lost (Last?) arc

Stuart is not here so I think I should say its an ALTERNATIVE Earth!

Well,
Spoiler
Torchwood
was mentioned in the Weakest Link episode, and I'm sure as well that
Spoiler
Darkness
was mentioned by Gwyneth in The UNquiet Dead so it could be either!

Funnily enough, the same thing was said when the Doctor regenerated... let the speculation begin!

My money is still on
Spoiler
Torchwood
given that it is going to provide a link to the spin off series of the same name and it was mentioned in the last series.

There could be another theme that runs alongside it too and I wouldn't be surprised if it has something to do with
Spoiler
the secret that the Face of Boe has to share with The Doctor.

Yes, I think it's
Spoiler
Torchwood
too, but after hearing the
Spoiler
darkness
being mentioned as well, I'm going to be keeping an ear out for that too during series two.

I think "Bad WOlf" is very definitely finished with - it was explained in the last episode of series 1 so that's all over and done with.

As for "Torchwood" - this was generally considered to be the word for series two at the time it was first mentioned, especially after it was revealed that it would be the name of the spinoff series and we'd hear it in The Christmas Invasion - which we did.

"Darkness" is a possibility too, I suppose - time will tell.

BTW, I'm not using any highly irritating spoiler tags as it's quite obvious from the thread title that thread could contain spoilers but since nobody knows anyway, it's all just speculation!

It could well be the
Spoiler
darkness
given that a fan site in Oz claims that the
Spoiler
Gelth
will be returning in the next series.

RTD said we would hear whatever the word was in The Christmas Invasion which was already used in series one. You might well be right and it could be something completely different that no-one has picked up on as yet. I remember picking up on the Bad Wolf ref in series one and everyone saying I was reading too much into it so perhaps RTD is going for the more subtle approach this time around.

now am i being really thick here but i thought tourchwood was the name of the lasser or the operation which blasted the spaceship at the end of the christmas invasion(ordered by Harriet Jones)? with these thoughts i think it is more likley to be darkness?
stuart62

In the commentary, RTD says that references to Torchwood will continue throughout the second series so that would seem to be the answer!
