New Dr Who series to start April 2006?

At the end of today's Christmas special they said the good doctor would be back in the spring.

Just seen this saying Strictly Dance Fever will be on again starting April, do you think they'll be together like last time?

Seems a long time to have to wait

I'd heard they were currently considering two options:

1. Start the new season in late February, and it runs it's 13 episodes uninterrupted (yes please).
2. Start the new season Easter weekend, but they'd have to bugger around with it on the schedules, or take a break during the World Cup.

Yeah, I'd definitely go for number one. Not only would we see it sooner, but it will have more impact if it can run continuously, rather than being mucked about with in the schedules.

I hope they start it in Feb! I think they'd definitely lose a lot of viewers if they keps changing around with the schedules

The World Cup will kick off at 5pm (BST) on Friday 9th June 2006, which means that the last episode has to be transmitted by the Saturday before (3rd June) to avoid it being shunted about the schedules (since as you know the Beeb have the rights to half the matches in the group stage). Therefore I would like the first episode to be transmitted on or before the 11th March (which is only two weeks earlier than the series premiere last year). I think that Strictly Dance Fever will start five weeks later than Doctor Who (so that they can get on with showing the World Cup).

bloody world cup, have to go messing things around! lol i guess they wont start it until they know they cn finish the series. i dont want them to rush it an mess up some episodes even it means waiting a few weeks for eps

Option 1 keeps it firmly in the peak ratings period and saves people losing track if it gets messed about in the schedules.

Another good thing about option 1 is that while the last 1 or 2 episodes may be affected, ratings for earlier episodes shouldn't suffer because of hot Saturday evenings again.

I'm all for showing it in an unbroken run - I think viewers will get impatient and turn off if it gets messed about with in the schedules. (I know I won't, but obviously I can't speak for everyone.) We keep being told that audiences these days appear to have the attention span of a goldfish, so I hope the BBC bear this in mind when considering the scheduling.

I also agree with other posters who have said that DW is more suited to the dark nights rather than the long hot days of summer. Last year's finale was affected by the good weather (as was many programmes) although it still got the lion's share of the available audience.

Definate fan of Option 1 here, mind you I'm a fan of starting the new series in the next 5 minutes. Just watched last night's again and I'm now officially squeeing with delight at DT's take on the Dr

Yes, just wish the BBC would repeat it b efore Jan 1at (after all, they can manage endless repeats of Little Britain, Two Pints, so they could squeeze in a couple of repeats of The Christmas Invasion.

Anyway - option one for me.
