There was no Eastenders Christmas Party this year Not sure about Matt Lucas and David Walliams thing.

I guess your refering to the Franch and Saunders Christmas special which involves Eastenders.

It airs on the 27th at 9 BBC

Because they suddenly remembered Shane Ritchie's version of Fairytale of New York, and decided that putting everything into perspective, after 7/7 Londoners had suffered enough this year.
