Cheap Deals - are they for real?

In my local papers recently I have seen a lot of adverts for sum amazingly cheap deals, (I won't mention any particular companies). The large majority of them are cashback deals but there are some deals where you pay some money up front and then nothing else for the year (providing you stay within the contract bundled mins and texts) and you get a free phone. The large majority of these companies interestingly started up all about the same time in 2000 and are still ongoing businesses and are in areas near each other. Deal include free samsung D500 and 1500 anytime x-net mins a month and total cost 99p for the whole year.

Can these be for real or am I just waiting to be stung?
