I am in the process of switching back to BT from NTl for my land line and i have just realised that i have no line to the telegraph pole!
we used to have BT some years ago but when an BT engineer was working on our neighbours house a couple of years a go he took our line down.
We still have a few fixings and a BT socket.

When i called to arrange reconnection the lady said i would have to pay £75 if any work needed doing which it clearly will.

does anyone have any ideas how i can avoid these charges??

It's not your fault there is no line to the pole when there was originally, and as you used to be with BT they shouldn't be charging. Phone again, see what they say.

You should only have to pay the connection fee if the internal wiring has been removed and it needs to be replaced.

I thought the £75 pays for the connection from BT network to the house (and includes fitting the BT master socket in the house if necessary)

If a new cable is required to connect the house to the BT network, I would have thought the standard connection charge would apply.
BT might waive the charge if a cable was originally installed and then they decided to remove it, it won't cost anything to ask - I'd be interested in hearing the outcome.

Well i called them up and the said there would be no charge as they removed the cable.
But in the end i decided to cancel the order as NTL offered to cut my line rental to £7.50 and my Broadband to £9.99 (2mb) for a year.
