Adam certainly has the motive to be evil (he's been altered and abandoned, left to fester with that for possibly decades) and he was described as a genius. That kind of combination could be a very powerful driving force for the character.

Other than that, IMDB has been used to mislead us before (remember the entries for The Watcher and Davros which appeared on there just prior to the broadcasting of The Parting of the Ways?)”

I certainly would be a nice twist if it did turn out to be Adam.

Does anyone think it's significant that the Doctor had his hand chopped off? It seemed a little gratuitous on Christmas evening to see him lose his hand, so it must have some relevance to future stories. Maybe someone with a knowledge of Time Lord DNA could find his hand, or otherwise someone hitching a lift inside the Doctor's body could have taken the opportunity to make a bid for freedom inside the hand...?

Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere - this is my first post.

at a guess could be the daleks being brought back, and bruno langley (adam) has done commentries on the dvd box set so most be popular with the rtd team

The Master - he wanted the Doctor's remaining regenerations so "You will pay, for your chances. These are ours." makes sense if "these" was referring to the Doctor's remaining regenerations

Just not necessarily this season - but since he's got a confirmed third series, RTD must be starting to think that far ahead at least surely?”

GReat to be thinking that far ahead. I wonder who will be playing the doctor?

I like the Master idea, and thought the same. But why 'these are ours'? Not 'these are mine.'

Does he ever talk about his regenerations in the plural?

Just an idea, but maybe someone/s are responsible for the doctor either having the ability to regenerate, or the opportunity, i.e the tea just happening to be there.

But if I'm right, why say "These are ours" instead of they are ours? I'm being nitpicky, but the second is better grammar.

P.s It just occured to me that it might be the Timelords speaking to him

I would love it if it did turn out to be
Spoiler
The Master or the Time Lords
but going on what happened in series one it could well be
Spoiler
The Gelth
which is one of the current rumours doing the rounds.

The link below contains the mystery voice, which I have processed.

I don't agree with DenWatts's interpretation of the words, but I won't give my own view at this stage.

The last sentence, particularly the last word, is tricky.

Perhaps it doesn't mean much. On the other hand Dr Who fans might hear something they recognize as significant.

Thanks to DenWatts for the original transcript.

Here's the one Megabyte wav file.

Hi pF.

I downloaded your file and the middle part of the dialogue appears to be missing - a consequence of the processing, I don't doubt.

I had the same problem when I tried, due to the fact I only had a two-channel source to work with. Which was why I extracted the sound at the highest possible quality and posted it in an untreated state so that people could make up their own minds about what it actually contained.

Still, it's good to know that this has intrigued posters enough to keep working on the problem. All help is appreciated - including, of course, RTD himself who might like to post what was scripted and save us all a great deal of trouble.

Did you think that there was some dialog missing? I could only hear reverberation there.

During the processing I cut out everything except what I discerned as speech.

Anyone interested in analysing the clip for themselves should of course refer to DenWatts's original clean source.

I just wanted to say thanks to Den and _pF_ for taking the time to do this! I don't really have anything to add to the theories already discussed, except that if it does turn out to be
Spoiler
The Master,
then I'd LOVE it if it did end up being
Spoiler
Anthony Head's character.
I really think he could pull it off, and it'd be a nice early hint of the story arc to come
Spoiler
(he could escape in a TARDIS of his own, then have a role to play later in the season - maybe not make him the MAIN villain, but perhaps start laying foundations for season 3 with him as the main villain?)

(Sorry for the abuse of spoiler tags, it's my first post using them )

It's possible that they will bring Adam back as the leader of teh Cybermen.

One of my mates told me that originally, in series one, it had been planned that Adam would turn out to be Davros. Think about it they both have some sort of implant in the middle of their foreheads.

http://www.shillpages.com/dw/mo_dv03.jpg

Apparently, they changed this plan when they realsied teh the origin of Davros had been explained before in the classic Dr Who episodes.

Since the Cybermen were another of Dr Who's great enemys, it could make sense that the creators would still want to use Adam (maybe a differnet actor) as the leader of one of Dr Who's enemys.

Anyway, thats just what a friend told me around the time of series one so I dont know how much of it is true or not.

I have no reason to doubt it.

I do, RTD has been a massive fan of Doctor since he was a kid and the Genesis of the Daleks was a very significant story. The idea that he wouldn't have know about origin of Davros is completely preposterous.

I don't buy the idea of Adam being Cyber leader either since the Cyberman are from a different planet.

However, Adam would be a great character to bring back as some kind of evil mastermind. We have seen how he begins the slide, he has seen things which will have opened his mind and will now hate the Doctor for stranding him back on Earth. I would love for the Doctor to meet him 20 or 30 years later.

So don't try and shoehorn him into an classic enemy, he could become a far better new enemy.

Whilst I would welcome the return of characters like Davros etc I think they should only be brought back if their characters have evolved in some way and they actually serve a real purpose to the story...there is no point in just having them in an episode just for the sake of it and doing exactly the same as they did when we last saw them. That is why the Dalek episode worked so well...seeing a different side to them gave that story such an edge.

Agree with your comments about making him a far better new enemy for The Doctor...think Adam still has a lot of potential and mileage as a character.

Good question! I don't know! But did think it might be darkness and thought it referred to the Daleks in TUD, but it may mean something/someone else.
