BT are offering their customers free VoIP calls via BT Communicator to landline numbers (mobile numbers are included if calling USA/Canada) in 30 countries between the 25 December - 31 January 2006.

Countries included in this offer are:

Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Italy inc. Vatican City, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, USA

Each call can last 60 minutes before you get cut off but you are free to redial and there are no fees/deposits to pay before you can start making calls of a reasonable length.

The BT Communicator software can be downloaded at

Bex's,

Thanks for the info. But....

I downloaded it but I can't register for BT Communicator - all I get is a BT page telling me:

"Sorry, because of technical difficulties we can't fulfil your request at present.
Please try again later."

Is it just me or is this a BT scam! We'll give you free calls but only if you can register!

Happy New Year to all.

I know people have been able to register.

I can't register as I don't have a BT landline, don't have a landline at all - completely VoIP here.

Sound like a great idea!

Could be that I don't have a BT landline. Must be missing that in the T&C's

Anyway just tried Voipstunt and it seems to work fine - 5.36 min call to a mates landline for free

Was this without even crediting the account?

Yes, I read later that I needed to credit £10 or something!

Wonder how long it will work?

Not long would be my first guess!

It's a €5 credit approx £4.

I was able to make quite a few calls over 5 minutes, before it started to cut me off. For the sake of £4 I just credited the service, even though I have £1 on VoIP Cheap, €1 on VoIP Buster and €5 on SIP Discount all the original initial top up amounts.

Sorry Bex's I didn't read the T&C's that well!

£4 (can't find the euro symbol and really don't want to!) is a small amount to pay.

Even if you add up all your payments to VOIP providers comes less than my monthly phone bill!

Must try to get more into this!

kind regards,

Steve

I needn't have paid the €5, as I could just have continued to use SIP Discount, as I have been for a while, I just thought what the hell, it's only €5.

(Not that you wanted to, but the € is Alt Gr+4).
