HUMAX PVR 9200T - Slow start up from standby!

Having become fed up with Sky TV's ever increasing subsription costs and transfering over to Freeview i purchased a Humax 9200T to replace my Pace 3100 Sky + box.
Being generally happy with all it's functionality i am however disapointed with the time it takes to start up when coming out of standby. It runs through a procedure on it's front panel as follows:

L10
L20
L30
L40
L50
L60
L70
L80
L90
STING

Am i alone in having this problem or are all HUMAX 9200T's subject to this pre-historic start up procedure??!!

My 9200 does the same, as does my parent's. They both take a minute or so to boot up. As you say, it's a real pain after using Sky+.

The only solution seems to be to leave the box switched on.

Mine takes 25 seconds from first press on remote to a picture showing on the tv screen. Enough to miss the start of most programmes without any padding. The box really needs to start 30 secs or so early when recording from standby.
By the way, I am running the latest software and had a firmware update by Hunax. Previously it was taking 40 to 50 secs to boot up.

I thought around 15 seconds was standard judging by other posts, however I have seen posts other than these from people reporting it takes them longer. I've never asks what this means (i.e. wht will make it takelonger than 15 seconds to show the first pictures and sound)

Mine takes the same 15s.

Can i just confirm something with you, are you saying you think that the fact it takes so long to start up is a " problem " or are you just using that in a loose term to express your dismay at the fact it takes far too long to boot up? To answer your question all Humax boxes do this at start up i believe.

Either way i agree that it takes far too long to boot up. Since my recent trouble with my box mine now seems to take longer than before to go from L10 etc to actually giving me a picture on the screen.

Repeating what Marcdavis said, i wonder what it is about the humax that means that a lot of folk seem to have a different start up time for their boxes, seems odd to me as we all have the same hardware etc. Hm.

I must admit i originally thought the slow start up may have been a problem with my Humax. As so many people seem to have the same experience it is obviously a very unusual "quirk" which doesn't seem to effect any other freeview box i have ever used and is especially disapointing after the instant start up of my previous Sky + box. Why should it take so long? after all we are in the 21st century!

as to why I suspect its something to do with the way the software was written? As to whether it has to (in this day and age) no idea. Maybe in standby the Humax is more asleep than other PVRs, therefore there is more to wakeup when switching on. Speculating.

What I dont understand is what make some boxes take more than the 15 seconds from pressing the on button to display picture and sound. If you have this it might be worth an email to Humax to see if they know why and can explain.

I too have the same 'problem'. I emailed Humax and got the following reply.
"There is no problem. It is just the software loading up before the machine starts. STING is short for starting".

Try turning off the automatic search for software updates.

Some say that can speed startup.

If you use this forum then you will know when to manually check for an update!
