Texting a BT landline
OK, I've heard recently that you can text a BT landline from a mobile phone, and the message will be read out by the robotic woman at the end of the line.
How does this work, and how much does it cost? Do you need any special services to be able to use this? We simply have the bog standard BT Together Option 1 and nothing else.

it does not cost anything to receice, just the cost of a standard text you send on your network.
all you do is put in the landline number instead of a mobile number and send it. its been actice on bt phones for over a year now but only now getting advertised. |

Except because she only says it once (unless they've changed it recently), when you get am idiot brother picking up the phone and not passing messages on because he couldn't be bothered to listen properly, it gets very annoying!

Ah, thank you for your helpful responses.
Just tried it now and robot rang me up and read out the message. She does sound creepy, though. Also, if you've saved a message, how do you get back to it? What number do you ring to retrieve it if you've saved it for later? |

The BT service has been going for quite some time now, strange how all these many months later BT are only just advertising the service.
You can text a BT, NTL, Telewest or a VoIP number. If you have a Virgin mobile, you can set your Virgin service to send a name instead of your number to be read out by the system. I have 2 SMS landline phones, so the text can be displayed instead of read out. |
