Link: Cybus Corporation

Look at the great new Cybermen pictures.

This first pic is excellent. It's what I was hoping, no praying for in this new series. It is a take on the iconic image of the Cybermen that I saw in a book from the Jon Pertwee era where the Cybermen are walking down some steps with St. Paul's Cathedral behind them.

I really hope to see this image played out in the new series, and hope it's representive how the Cybermen are to be depicted with a really dark nightmarish feel to them.

Spoiler
The Cybus Corporation ARE in league with Geocomtex from series one, according to this site. (If there was any doubt that they may not have been)

There is a restricted files section where you need to enter a password.
I've tried a few, but am met with the message that I have answered the wrong password...

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the Cybermen images. I absolutely love them.

Who the hell is the Cybus Corporation? Shouldn't it be IE (Internal Electromatics) with Tobias Vaughn for authenticity

I do like the pictures though...

Well I had a look at the second link and found this:

Quote:
“"The Cybus Corporation was created in 1976 from the remains of the liquidated electronics company International Electromatics, its ethos to further human technological and biological development.

International Electromatics' extensive research and development files proved invaluable in giving the Cybus corporation a head start in the fledgling computing industry, developing international networking systems and information distribution nodes."”

There's a few little Cybermen avatars to download if anyone likes them too.

Hello The Slug - good to see you back.

I know it's a fan-made site, but it's a damn good one and I think the images are great.

Looks like they spent quite a bit of time on those images.

I particularly like this one.

P.S. Thanks for the link, AM.

Good morning Den - it's good to be back

I wasn't trying to belittle the site - it's good fun, and I enjoyed the nod to the Borg: "An international roll-out of Cybus technologies will begin early next year with assimilation of standard units to be complete by mid 2006. Domination of the market is inevitable by the end of the year. Speaking about potential EU opposition to the plans a Cybus spokesperson said 'Resistance is useless'."

Just wanted to point out that this is pure speculation.

I know you wasn't - I hope my post didn't translate as a telling-off!

It seems extremely polished for a fan-site, don't you think?

I know it isn't an official BBC site as I ran a WHOIS on it, but to have run up the images in such a short space of time after their official announcement makes me think it must have some links into the programme makers.

I did like the bit about EU opposition too, given the problems that Microsoft seem to be having with the EU at the moment.

I bow to your greater wisdom. The Borg's predilection for assimilation, and "resistance is futile" catchphrase had me fooled.

I love that there are older versions of the Cybermen on this site - makes me think that we'll be seeing more than one version in the actual story.

One thing though - maybe I am getting things mixed up, but I thought the Cyberman story takes place on a parallel earth, so how can it be linked to the company we saw in Dalek? Or is it the version of that company on this parallel world?

With all the HHGTTG references in TCI I was wondering if Cybus has connections to RTD

Hi Den,

It's a shame that it isn't an official BBC Doctor Who website.
Everyone please excuse my error for thinking it was.

But yes, it is a bit good isn't it?

If it isn't a BBC Doctor Who website,...then it should be.
They should ask the guy who made it if they can have it for themselves. It may as well be the proper one as it looks like it's an authentic BBC Doctor Who spinoff site, and looks like it's better than the sites that they actually make themselves.

I love that image of the Cybermen against the backdrop of St. Paul's Cathedral.
If you look carefully in the image you can see what looks like a square shaped portal which they are walking through from one dimension/parallel universe into another.

You know that "resistance is futile" actually came from the Cybermen themselves in the early days, and was later ripped off for The Borg?

At least I believe so. I ran across something a while ago when I was reading about Cybermen on the web. So I think that's true. Somebody here can verify if I'm wrong or not I suppose.

So if anything....The Cybermen are reclaiming their catchphrase.
And it would allow you to be a real smart-arse if some 'Trekkie' tries to tell you that the Cybermen are a rip off of The Borg and have even stolen their famous catchphrase....now you can say;...."Ahh,.....(Insert smug response)".

To be honest I have always thought the official BBC website rather lame in comparison to others that are around.

A quick search reveals a lot of interesting pages, two of which are in Wikipedia :

The Cybermen once launched their invasion of Earth through the sewers by St Paul's Cathedral.

Cybermen come from Earth's evil twin planet Mondas.

The Cybermen first turned up in The Tenth Planet in 1966, causing the first Doctor, William Hartnell, to regenerate.

Cyberman design has evolved over the years - their costumes have featured washing machine hose, plastic golf balls and wellington boots.

In the seventies, the Cybermen had flares.”

But it's not a competition, I love both these villainous 'species' and I can't wait to see the Cybermen return in the Spring

Me too! All sounds rather promising and that is just by the rumours doing the rounds. I'm hoping they are going to explore the background of the Cybermen rather than just have the usual taking over the universe scenario...something along the lines of what Rob Shearman did with his Dalek episode and the themes he explored would be just the ticket!

Spoiler
I think episodes 5 and 6 are going to be the taster and building up the story ready for their rumoured return in the series finale.

I can't wait to see them again. The cybermen always frightened me much more than the Daleks. I remember one scene where a group of them marched towards the camera which had me hiding in the kitchen and offering to do the drying up. I wouldn't go back in the lounge until my mum had turned all the lights on.

I wonder if kids these days are frightened in the same way or if they're too sophisticated as viewers now.

Good morning, AM.

Yes, I'm with you on that.

Those images are excellent quality (and take a heck of a lot of time to render.) I'm not sure anyone could better them, to be honest.

Is it possible that the site has been made by a BBC Wales employee in his spare time?

Hi Stuart.

The site is registered to a chap in the US, according to the information in the Whois database.

I'm not sure if such details are entirely accurate, though. I'm not sure if domain registers verify the registrant's home address (they didn't the last time I registered a website.)

The last I heard, the site was supposedly created by one of the members of OG.

But the speed with which the site has been created (this isn't the first time it has had a thread posted about it on DS) and the quality of the images leads me to suspect that the creator must have some links with BBC Wales.

Hi Den

I tried Whois but it said "Details not currently available" for some reason.

It's certainly a cracking site and some of those images are very impressive. It would be hard to believe that the guy (or gal! ) who created it isn't involved in the production in some way.

I wonder what sites the BBC has planned for the new series? Judging by the Mars probe one, it looks like they will be doing a few more next year to tie in with certain episodes. I can't imagine how their Cyberman one could compete with this unofficial one!
