Well according to this BBC article it was http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4546988.stm .

It is funny, while we here at DS are still rapped up about the crazy frog and all the rubbish rappers out there, we forget about the people who have really made the money. James Blunt can probably retire now since he must be mega rich by now. After all song writers make more money then mimers. Girls Aloud aren't loaded, by any stretch!

I recall one week in 2005 when the Top 5 albums in the official chart were all by British singer-songwriters. I don't remember that ever happening before. Blunt, Tunstall, Melua, Gray, Cullum.

The saddest thing is this is probably your most reasoned post today . How old are you, if you don't mind me asking? Just so as to avoid arguing with a minor....

"Cold Roses", in particular, must rank as arguably his finest record to date.

Still think the best is yet to come, and that's saying something!

I hate it when people call music such as that "music to cut yourself to" or something similar. If the emotion is genuine why should we complain? I'd rather listen to a heartfelt emotional song then 4000 songs about love and happiness and how great their life is.

Don't you dare be so narrow minded! I actually like Pop/Rock/R&B (not all together - lol). I am allowed not to like someone as an artist and it seems that quite a few people agree that he is not great

LOL Quite a few people agree that who is not great? You said that Blunt, Tunstall, Melua, Gray and Cullum were all rubbish.

I agree with you on all of them except KT Tunstall. And I couldn't possibly disagree more strongly about her! She's outstanding. And so is Ryan Adams.

And furthermore, so are Devendra Banhart, M. Ward, Patty Griffin, Rachael Yamagata and Alex Parks. Year of the criminally neglected singer-songwriter, if you ask me.
