Well i figure it is really, look at series 1 nearly all 13 episodes i think got 10m viewers everyweek or over or under slightyly. What othershow can hold 10m viewers for 13weeks in a row ? And even the Xmas invasion drew in just under 10m What show can match it lol.

It's probably the best watched drama in the UK right now. But EE and Corrie would be devastated if they only got 7 million viewers (which was the average last season, no?) They regularly get twice as many viewers.

Doctor Who did brilliantly on Christmas Day and I'm really pleased, but it was about the only piece of genuinely new original programming on. And many people, for example, my Mum (who watched the classic series as a girl but hadn't seen any of the new ones), would have watched it for the first time because of a/ annoyingly keen fangirl daughters and b/nothing of any cop scheduled against it.

Mind you, my Mum is now going to watch next series and if it caught other first timers too the ratings may go up

i think its safe to rate dw as currently being the most popular drama series (non-soap) in the country, possibly the most popular tv show (non-soap) full stop.

the crunch will come though when itv decide what they will be scheduling against the new series.. they really gave up the chase last series by scheduling no-hope movie re-runs rather than anything genuinely impacting.

even the christmas ep was scheduled again WWTBAM which i think most would agree, it well past its sell-by date

dont get me wrong, i love the show and want to share that with as many people as possible, i just dont want to get carried away..

Utter b***s**t - okay, maybe short-term shows like I'm a Celebrity get high-ratings, but soap ratings go up down up down up down all the time - never has one soap held the same number of viewers 13 weeks in a row.

And I confess, sometimes I do watch Eastenders - but on Christmas Day, I turned the volume down after watching Doctor Who - partly because I wanted to discuss the episode with friends and family (and have supper) , but mostly cus I didn't want to end up depressed at the end of what seemed like a brilliant Christmas.

I totally agree it is very impressive, it's just not the most watched tv show in the UK.
