Decent Musicians - Idiot Interviewer
Rant in progress.........
Just watching 4 Music @ O2 Wireless. Some great music...shame about the presenter Whats that guys name who is presenting it, big curly dark brown hair.... Is it cool to ask such questions as: To Stereo Mcs Rob Birch: "So...you're a pretty scary looking guy....if I didnt know you I'd be scared....have you ever murdered anyone" ? Is this like a new trend in interview techniques, to behave like a fool and indulge in own brand humour with no consideration for the fact viewers may want to hear what bands are doing, where they are gigging etc?! |

From what I've seen since a majority of "music" presenters are too busy blowing their subject to ask any objective questions. |

I say almost because at least she had appeal in other areas. Anyway, yes it seems impossible for this guy to ask any questions that might prompt a sensible answer. Thing is it takes the musical element out of it to some extent, if you are into music you want to hear about music, not stupid juvenile questions from Clarkson head. errggghhh. They should have drafted in Jools Holland..... |

For every ten people he insults mindlessly, there's someone he drools all over. I don't think I'll ever get over the horror of watching him brownnose Daniel Bedingfield. Spot on by the way with the description. I hate him. Hate is not too strong a word either. I love music and he just ruins the whole thing with his childish humour. Jo Whiley and John Peal (sadly missed) are hard to beat for sure. That said Channel 4 could have done alot better than this worthless little pile of ****. Its almost like he is 10 years old and he has been given a camera and a microphone to play with. Ooh ooh look at me....I can hear my voice and see my face on that screen......I'm....I'm.....Look Mummy I'm in the TV.

Jo Whiley seems to take her subject matter seriously, and comes across more like a music journo trying to actually get interesting information out of her interviewee.
Shame she isn't on as much as she used to be. |

A lot of them are the same though. It's not just Simon Anstell.
They're either trying to massage their own ego with self-indulgent crap humour,...or they just waste the limited time they've got with banal chat...e.g..... "I got my hair done for this gig, where did you get that jacket? What's your favourite flavour of crisps? I bet you could write a song about crisps couldn't you? Ho ho ho". Wasn't there another reasonable music presenter from the 1990s who was okay at asking questions? Russell something or other.... Russell Crowley?? If that was his name he managed to do decent enough interviews. There was a music show on a few years ago late on Channel 4 called "All back to mine", and just featured the performer in his own house being interviewed about influences, and their approach and future plans, with video clips shown in between. Was a pretty good music programme to watch for a good interview. I forgot who the interviewer was though. |

I quite like SA and Miquita - sorry! But I'll admit they do have a strange way about them.

I think it's another sign that "music television" is gradually being transformed into generic, low-grade entertainment. It's just not about music anymore. Just like when MTV stopped playing music, the few music programmes that are left are slowly morphing into empty prattling. Pretty soon, everything on TV will just be a series of flickering colours accompanied by a loud, non-descript noise.

Maybe. But I don't think 'music television' has ever been about music - it's always been about visuals. That's why there's been a longterm trend towards 'good-looking' pop stars who can prance about to choreographed moves with their backing dancers, but can't sing or write songs or play instruments. 'Music television' is stunting and distorting popular music, but it doesn't have to be that way. There's nothing at all wrong with Later with Jools Holland, and I don't see why they can't use a similar format for a wider range of programmes. All he's doing is showing artists in different genres performing live, and doing a couple of interviews. It's just high quality live popular music. And yet it's treated as some sort of highbrow arts programme for a minority audience, while 'the masses' get to watch over-produced videos, dance routines and idiots like Amstell. It's as though there's a media conspiracy to undermine and marginalise real music.

You have to remember though that John Peel enjoyed greatly Simon Amstell and Popworld. It takes a while to get used to it but he does seem to get people remarkably at ease quickly.

Not sure why John Peel like Simon Amstell means anything..... Also, the people I watched being interviewed last night didnt look comfortable at all. And Popworld is a bit more produced, hence reducing the irritation of SA! |

No kidding. You can imagine how comfortable Alex Parks looked when Amstell's line of questioning went as follows: "So you've got a girlfriend then. Has she got big knockers? Har har. Do you like her knockers? What does she think of yours?" F*ckwit. ![]() Quote:

True. And there's nothing severely wrong with Miquita Oliver either.
