i think i may be the only person in the world who thought the xmas invasion episode of the new doctor who was rubbish

no offense to david tennant, as i think he is a good actor, but i don think he suits the role at all - maybe i am jumping ahead too soon, maybe i should wait for the new series

aww, i miss christopher eccleston already - he was such a great doctor

I'm not sure that I like the dodgy norflundun accent, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

I think that is my problem with the new Dr Who. Chris Eccleston was the only one who lived up to Tom Baker.
But I am prepared to give it time. Also a lot of the plot didn't really hang together ( manic Santas? Please!) but the previews of the next season looked better, so I am reserving judgement till then

Well the manic Santas made sense to me - maybe you weren't paying attention to the plot?

Eccleston's portrayal of the Doctor was good but it wasn't without its problems. His opening episode showed that a little bit of work was required to really think of him as the Doctor whereas Tennant really was the Doctor from the moment he stepped out of the Tardis on the Sycorax ship.

Yes, it would have been nice if he'd done it a bit earlier but to be honest, I didn't spend the first half of the programme wondering when he was going to wake up - the Doctor being out of the action after a regeneration is fairly normal.

I thought he was excellent - more naturally a Doctor than Eccleston and I am really looking forward to the rest of series 2.

As with any change, it takes a bit of time to get used to it (new style, delivery etc). I thought that DT was very good.

I hated the beginning. The final scenes were fantastic.

Too many Hitch Hikers references for my liking. Tea and dressing gowns should have stayed there.

I loved his choice of costume. It was interesting to see him choose it near the end for a change.

Never ever thought he could be better than Eccleston, but by the end of the episode he really was fantastic and all the dissapointment of Eccelston leaving was gone, because I think Tennant was actually better.

I think the biggest problem was that for the first 35 minutes we didn't really get to see much of Tennant and when we did finally see him in action for the last 25 minutes or so , he performed well . I personally shall be waiting until the new series starts screening to see what Tennant can do in the role.

I liked the bit when the new doctor was giving his "what am I " speech, and said Am I sexy while looking at Rose, bodes well for romantic/sexual tension in future episodes. The new doctor is a better match for Rose, I thought CE was ace, but way to old to have a romantic involvement with Rose. No doubt someone will now point out that DT is 43 and CE is 31...

Anybody know if and when it is repeated? I missed it, one of my visitors would not stop talking and I was too late to record.

The bit I did see, I have to say I thought David Tennant was brilliant.

New Year's Day, BBC Three, 1900.

Enjoy!

With a bit of luck, the announcer won't talk over the end credits and we'll hear the new rendition of the theme tune in all its glory (complete with middle eight).

That's why I don't like having visitors; they talk too much. It's repeated on BBC three on New years day at 7pm, don't invite ANYONE round.

Yes that was why I was hoping for Christmas Eve - so I could actually get to watch it. When the episode began my grandparents were around and I ended up being really rude and going to watch it in my room . They then decided to go home and I had to go downstairs to say goodbye (my family can never say goodbye indoors we always have to go right to the other end of our large garden and linger for hours which would be better spent indoors) desperately trying to follow the plot whilst not appearing rude. Before I got to go back upstairs my little sister had to try and start an arguement about why I could possibly like Doctor Who because she's decided (this being her first episode) that it's rubbish - ironic because apparently my other two (non sci-fi fan) siblings had been happily defending it to her for the first half hour.

So I think New Years Eve will be my propper watch of the episode and then I'll do something about finding somewhere else to live!

I didn't think his accent was dodgy at all - I think a lot of people probably don't realise he's a Scot. He sounds convincingly generic South East to me....but then again I live in Sarf Lunnen....

I've been a DT fan for a long time so it was probably inevitable that I'd think he was good, but I'd say give the man a few proper episodes in the new series before you make any final judgements...

If my experience is anything to go by, finding somewhere else to live won't help. . I had Christmas planned for weeks: A nice romantic Christmas day with the wife (our first as a married couple) and then at 3pm go 'round to the parents house for a spot of Christmas tea. The plan was to leave there at about 6:45, getting home in time to pour myself a large glass of Baileys and settle down to watch Doctor Who. My Sisters decided to turn up late (5:30) which meant my Mum didn't start the tea until 6pm, My Mum catches me looking at the clock and says "Oh, in a rush to get home are you?!" in the normal sarcastic way that all Mum's seem to pocess. To cut a long story short, I missed five minutes of the show and my Mum's probably still got the hump now.

I think the Santas should have had more of the show, better than the Sycorax.

I do have a video recorder, I just wanted to sit down and watch it as it was broadcast - I'm sad like that!

i really dont understand how anyone can think he was better than CE, he was'nt on screen long enough to tell

i thought he was alright, but he was'nt as good by a long shot

but i am willing to give him a chance, as i said before he was'nt on screen long enough for me to make a big sweeping statement about him

saw an episode of s1/28 on three with CE in and thought he was a good doctor but not funny/quirky enough where DT seems to have the quirkyness.

Nightmare - I was round at my Wife's parents place. Her grandmother lives there too in a Granny Annex/Extension thingy... guess where I was at 19.00 for a peaceful hour. Mind you, I'd flagged this up as my intention well before the day.

I totally understand the concept of wanting to see it broadcast 'live' rather than on a recording, and I don't think it's sad at all.

Btw... loved DT, though he was perfect in the role, mind you, I though he was great in Casanova too and enjoyed Quatermass. I liked CE too - in fact, I haven't anything bad to say about any of the Doctors. Splendid chaps, all of them.

I always thought Dr Who should be an ecentric elderly fellow.
Not necassarily too old but certainly getting on a little, Tom Baker was always my favourite.

I think in an ideal world any of the surviving Python team would have done the best job. Preferably Cleese or Palin

Many people have said this - that the Doctor should be played by and actor between the ages of 45 and 65. Russell T's decided to only cast Doctors 45 and younger, because kids nowadays dont really admire old people as heroes anymore. But, still, David Tennant is brilliant anyway so mleh
