Apparently it won't now. There was a scene in The Christmas Invasion where the Doctor explained that his accent had changed and he had picked it up from Rose but this was cut. (DT can't remember whether or not they even filmed it!)

However, in an upcoming episode, he will use his own accent.

All the Doctors had their strengths and weaknesses! David Tennant, thanks to his acting, has more pros than cons! Thats what makes him a BRILLIANT Doctor. Anyway, only 20 mins of screentime is hardly enough to judge a new Doctor - wait until the new series...

Bit of a contradiction there surely?

Bottom line is, not evryone will like him, and thats fair enough. There are plenty of folks who thoroughly enjoyed his performance and the episode in general and I am one of them.

Like it or not this one ep is all we have to judge for a few months, it's inevitable that people will form an opinion but I'm sure most people are open minded enough to acknowledge that come the new series they might change their mind.

I agree, and I've no reason to believe currently that David Tennant is going to suddenly lose his acting ability and charisma as far as I'm concerned.

And to anyone who disagrees I say:

I could not stand the thought of "Dr Who?" as someone else after Christopher. Unfortunately the only things I'd seen David in were as a "baddy" & that had put me right off him ~ quite frankly he gave me the creeps & made my skin crawl .
I wanted to give the new series a chance & so I forced myself to watch "Jonathan Ross" with David & I kinda liked him . So I settled down with my whole tribe on Xmas day & I was won over. The tribe loved him too, so well done to David for following on after a hard act .
Let's not forget Christopher decided to leave after one series & I feel he let us down. David has promised to do at least another if he is well received I for one hope he keeps his promise.

I have liked his other work in Casanova, Taking over the Asylum etc and thought his first outing as The Doctor demonstrated that we have a lot to look forward to. Of course some of his mannerisms, perhaps even the accent he has adopted are going to irritate some but that doesn't make him a crap actor by any means.

Lets see him in action during series two and then make your minds up. Remember a lot of people hated Tom Baker after he took over from Jon Pertwee and he went to be the most successful Doctor during his time in the role.

It's always hard getting ti used a anew Doctor. I wasn't sure abiut DT but was impressed by him on Jonathan Ross and TCI.

I think he uses a Scottish accent, claiming to be Dr Jamie McCrimmon, in the Queen Victoria ep (can't remmber the tiltle), which I assume must be set around Bamoral.

And he can claim to just be using the accent of a previou incarnation

i remember watching the first episodes of a number of "classic" doctors, and the thing is that the writing and the characterisation grows to fit the actor playing the role.. dt i am sure is no different.. i reserve judgement until i have seen more, as he wasnt really that central to the xmas episode. remember as well that the doctor is always disorientated after a regen (tom baker's skipping rope routine with harry is probably the finest example of this), once the trauma dies down, the character usually shines a little brighter

I thought Tom Baker was crap just after the regeneration, I mean - who could possibly follow Jon Pertwee?

I'm sure David Tennant will have his own quirks and charms which we'll grow to love, especially if he hangs around for more than one series - I'll always remember Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor with the cheesy grin
I don't personally think he will go down in history as a great doctor tho' - he just wasn't there long enough.

If you think David Tennet was crap, go back and watch Colin Baker or Sylvester McCoy. Jesus, about as welcome as turds in a tea cup.

It's a new age, a new era. People's taste change and to dwell in the past is just plain silly.

If you don't like it, don't watch it. A simple yet effective solution.

This is almost totally off topic but what the hell,

did anyone else notice that whenever Tom Bakers Doctor offered a jellybaby he infact held out a bag of liqourice allsorts?

The only time I remember seeing actuall jellybabies was when he offered liquorice allsorts.

I thought the acting of both doctors was fantastic different each one but variety is the spice of life

Think people need to give DT a chance before shooting him down in flames. He might grow on you after a few eps!

Every Doctor's met with nay-sayers after a new one takes over - yes, even Christopher Ecclestone and Tom Baker.

Those of us a bit longer in the tooth have had time to get used to the fact that the Doctor changes every so often. What we've got to remember is that there's a whole new generation out there who've only known CE.

And to those newcomers, I'd like to say - DT won't be the same as CE... it's kind of the point!

I found the whole thing painful, I tried to watch both the ecclestone series and this episode and just couldn't sit through a whole episode in one go. The stories were stupid, the dialogue corny and the acting was average at best. With Sci-fi, if the previous elements aren't good I at least hope for good effects but these were not at all good. Compare the effects in this to stuff regularly put out by the stargates, battlestar galactica etc and they do not even compare. They're not as bad as the cg rubbish added to Red Dwarf but that's not saying a lot.

Simple solution, then - don't watch again.

I'll give it some time, but I honestly can't see DT delivering the pathos that CE did.

The ending?

I can't see DT moving me to tears.

Just lots of schoolboy jokes.
The series will then loose adult views and then finally get axed for another 14 years!

That's what a lot of people did 15 years ago!
