There is local rate and there is local-call (0845 local rate).

If you are on BT Together 1 - 01 and 02 numbers whether they are national or local - there is no difference in cost, are as follows:-

3p/min daytime
5.5p for up to an hour evenings
5.5p for up to an hour weekends.

Calls to 0845 Lo-Call rate numbers:-

3p/min daytime
1p/min evenings
1p/min weekends.

For reference calls to most 0870 numbers (now wrongly referred to as national rate) cost:-

7.51p/min daytime
3.75p/min evenings
1.50p/min weekends.

As you can see with 0845 and 0870 numbers the cost doesn't match the local/national rate of ordinary numbers (01 & 02).

The reason why the 0845 & 0870 numbers no longer are the same as calls made on BT Together Option 1, 2 or 3 tariff is that geographical calls on those tariffs are now offered at a discount price to compete with other suppliers.

If you are on another BT tariff, you may well find that 0845 (lo-call) numbers are charged at the same rate as local geographical calls and 0870 (national rate) numbers are charged at the same rate as national geographical calls.

In response to the OP, try adding the ISP dial up number as the account's "Best Friend" number and save 20% of call costs.

The 0845 and 0870 numbers are charged at the old standard rates that is no longer available.

The cost to call the 0845 and 0870 numbers are the same whether you are on Together 1, 2 or 3.

Seems you are mixing up lo-call (0845) rate numbers and standard 01 and 02 numbers.

0845 numbers are 1p/min at weekends, so an hour to one of those will be 60p

01 and 02 numbers are 5.5p for up to one hour, then 3p/min afterwards, or free on other plans.
