Panasonic DMREH50 RGB loop through
phda
29-12-2005
Hi,

I know that there is RGB loop through from AV2 to AV1 when the recorder is in stand-by, but can anyone confirm if there is a function to activate the loop through whilst recording.

I had a Pioneer 420 recorder and it was possible to push the + button on the front of the recorder and it would activate the loop through function whilst recording. This was a useful feature because I had my NTL set-top box linked up through the loop through so was able to watch the set-top box in RGB irrespective of what i/p the recorder was recording.

I am about to take delivery of the Panasonic DMREH50 and if the recorder does not have this function it will mean I will not have the facility to watch my NTL box in RGB if I am recording from another I/P i.e AV3/4 because I presume the o/p on AV1 is always whatever is being recorded.

Any advice much appreciated

Sadly no panasonic DVD-R's will loop through while recording.

I use the VCR (composite) scart for recording as I watch more live TV, but you could record in RGB and only watch in composite from the VCR scart when needed.

I believe Keene do a scart splitter, i.e. to send an RGB signal down one of two paths (in your case TV or DVD-R), but I've no idea of cost or effectiveness.

Yes, its a bit dissapointing, especially as the Pioneer models allow loop through whilst recording so you don't have to watch what you are recording. I'm considering cancelling my order for the Panasonic and going for the Pioneer 530. This does provide loop through whilst recording and also provides the facility to change channels on an NTL/sky box and has a 160 gig hardrive, albeit £70 or so more expensive.

The DHREH60 will allow you to watch a channel (or a recording) whilst fast dubbing. Not quite what you want I know.

(ooh, next post is the "big one" )
