my current setup is thus:

sony freeview box (rgb scart out) <-----> panasonic eh50 hdd/dvd recorder av2 (rgb scart in)

hdd/dvd recorder av1 (rgb scart out) <-----> tv av1 (rgb scart in)

all works a treat!!
now i am about to add a standalone dvd player into the mix (functionality improvements & better quality than the eh50) & am puzzled over now how to connect things

scorpio...if you are out there, this one may be for you!!

cheers
stuart

Connect the Standalone DVD player to one of the spare inputs on one of your HDD/DVDs.

If you have a WS TV, make sure your DVD Player is set to 16:9 in the set up menu. Also, check your signal output and go for RGB if you can (also in the same menu). Incidentally, you should do the same with all your other equipment as they are often set to 4:3 by default. That's OK if the programme your watching is 4:3, if it's not, you'll just get a letterbox affect that your TV will want to blow up!

there are no spare scart sockets on the hdd/dvd. 1 is already going into the tv and the other is connected to the sony freeviw box

That would work, you could connect your Freeview/HDDDVDRecorder to it and the DVD Player then connect the switching unit to the RGB socket on your TV.

You could also have just connected your standalone DVD player to your TVs AV2 Scart. I presume your TV has more then one scart.
