Hi i'm hoping someone on here can help me.

I recently upgraded my mobile. I sent my old one to a friend, but when he received it he was unable to use it. The phone was packaged well and doesn't seem to have been damaged in transit in any way at all.

However when we try and switch it on, all that happens is it either doesn't switch on at all, or it gives a message saying "Contact Service". This appears in red writing on a white background. Once, when it powered on it said the phone was locked, and to enter an unable code. .

I tried what i thought it was asking for, the phone's security code, but this didn't work and the phone switched itself off

The phone was working fine when i sent it, and he never entered any security codes or anything so I cant understand why it would no longer work.

The phone is a Nokia 7250i and is unlocked to all networks. I have tried contacting both o2 and Nokia on the freephone numbers to no luck at all, as they are either busy or their offices are closed.

If anyone is able to help resolve this, or supply any help it would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks

I think the phone needs a software upgrade.

Thanks for the reply

Is there any easy way to go about this? And why would it work fine before I sent it, and not at all when received?

Take it to your nearest carphone warehouse as they do it. They charge you for it tho.

when i bought my 7250i 2nd hand from a phone shop in town about a year and a half ago... mine never had this problem (sold it last year) but i have noticed that this can be a common fault with this phone. another common fault is when you go to the gallery to set a picture as wallpaper and the phone resets itself (mine did have that bug)

This message you describe is typical of that you would obtain when you are trying to use the phone on another network to the one it is locked to.
(I know you say it is unlocked, but...)

If you leave the phone on for long enough (could be upto an hour) the "Contact Service" message should revert to a "Enter Code" type message.

Either get your friend to use the same network as you used to use, or get the phone unlocked.

A software upgrade (or flash) that cpw service centres do will not unlock the phone.

It is definitely unlocked. I have previously used both an Orange sim (the original one) and my last sim was an O2 sim. My friends sim is another Orange one.

I'll take it into an o2 shop and see what they can do for it.
