My Thomson 32 w/s which is about 5 years old has suddenly stopped working. When the TV turns on it makes a snapping noise and then turns itself off again. It repeats this until you you switch it off with the button on the front. I spoke to someone and they said it could be a high voltage spark flying around inside. Has anyone experiened this before on there TV. It was perfect before this.

Do I get it repaired or buy a new TV? If I do get a new large screen TV should it be Plasma or LCD (or maybe a projector!).

I had that and a search around the net for "ICC17", thats the chassis number, showed the line output transformer had failed. You can tell this from the number of times the power LED flashes. I tried a replacement but it didn't work, so I scrapped the TV rather than spend any more money on it. I've since found that these chassis often fail at this age. There are repair kits available on the net which include the transformer and some other components that could have failed, but its a question of how much more to spend when CRT TV prices are under pressure from LCD/Plasma sales.
