I bought this just last week from John Lewis in Norwich for £399 . A tad overpriced compared with online prices I thought, but decided to go with it as I like their after sales care and I needed the recorder for Christmas. Which store did you see it for £319? I may be able to claim a partial refund under their "never knowingly undersold" policy .

PS - it's cracking machine, let down only by a rather poor internal tuner

Wish I'd known about John Lewis a couple of days ago. Been faffing about since before Christmas about buying one and now everyone has sold out. Ordered one from EmpireDirect today but expected delivery is 10-14 days.. Hey ho.

Just bought one from John Lewis Southampton with a 2yr guarantee for £319. They have 2 left If you're interested. Empire haven't got any stock for the next 2 weeks btw.

Seems like quite a few places are out of stock or have it listed as 'unavaliable'- I hope its not about to be replaced with a new model including Freeview, then I'd have to wait to buy one! (Or is that just my wishful thinking?!)

Its very annoying that just as I was about to buy one, everywhere with a decent price has run out!

Just thought I'd mention that I went back to John Lewis today explaining they reduced the price by £80 a few days after I bought it, and they credited my account with £80. I'm really chuffed!

I also bought one of these just before Xmas, did you explain at the shop about the price difference or over the phone? I bought my machine over the phone, £389. Brill machine, but if I can get £70, then you have to try

I went in the shop where I bought it and said it had been reduced to £319 on their website and also at their stores (the ones that still had it in stock). The bloke said he'd have to check with someone, disappeared for a couple of mins, tapped on his terminal (presumably checking current price) and then said, "yes, that should be okay," and asked for my debit card. All very painless and no grovelling needed! Yes, you've got to try!

Does it have an internal tuner then? (i.e. Can I watch BBC1 while recording Channel 4, say?)

On Saturday the man in John Lewis told me that, like a Sony I was also considering, it would only record the terrestrial channel I was watching.

I have a terrestrial feed and a Skybox (not in a Freeview area and can't have Sky+ due to communal feed). I often watch a 'main channel' and Sky simultaneously on my widescreen while recording a third channel.

Accepting that the picture quality when recording the analogue signal won't be up to much, is this machine any use to me?

Thanks in anticipation.

Unless I've got the concept completely wrong you can definately record from one input whilst watching another ie. record from Sky on AV1 whilst watching Pr.1 (internal) or indeed AV2 If you have a Freeview box. Not tried it myself as I've only got Sky (aerial blew down years ago). Got problems watching all the stuff I'm recording as it is. Still gettign used ot the concept of watching last nights TV (and skipping the adverts) whilst tonights is recording..

Demdempster - yes, it has an internal analogue tuner just like a VCR, so you can record one terrestrial channel while watching another via your TV tuner. The man in JL is wrong. It is quite poor though, as I mentioned before, with the picture noticeably sharper and richer in colour via my (cheap) TV's internal tuner - and that's even after looping through the Pioneer.

As far as I know the only way you can record BBC1 analogue terrestrial (say) and watch Sky is if your second scart output from the Skybox (the one that used to go to the video) goes to a spare scart socket in your TV (or loops through the old VCR to the TV in my case), and you select that scart input on your TV. If you're recording Sky on the Pioneer you have to select the L1 AV channel on the recorder, so you watch terrestrial via the TV's tuner as usual.

I think I've just managed to confuse myself as well as everyone else!

PS in testing this, I just set the Pioneer to BBC1 terrestrial and recorded for a minute or so. I didn't realise that it would take the programme title from GuidePlus - very nifty!
