Just returned from a holiday and have tried making a dvd from my sony camcorder.No problem, with playing it through the 510 recorder and editing it from there, although think i should have done that bit on camcorder first.Had 3 1hour tapes so made one complete recorder to put on dvd. So far so good, however, after dubbing onto disc the disc won't play in pc or an old dvd player I have. Works fine in 510?, used a sony RW disc, had a set given to me when bough the 510. Hope this isn't a silly question as just a novice at this game but do like my sony equipment, am I using wrong type discs for them to work or maybe something else i haven't done. Thanks for any help given.

Have you finalised the DVD.

Hi, I just let it finish dubbing in the 510 then it seemed to info write to the disc before ejecting. Might add as i loaded the machine it did format the disc before I could continue, thanks.

I am not sure you have finalised it. It does not happen automatically, ie the writting to disc as you eject it isn't finalising it.

Try putting the disc back in the 510 (best to finalise disc in the machine it was created in ). Then go to TOOLS, Then select DISC INFO, in there you will see the option to finalise disc, select this and it comes up with this will take 2/3 mins. continue. After that If you repeat the TOOLS Disc INFO you will see the FINALISE option is "GREYED OUT" ie unavailable as it has been done. Should now play on other machines now.
If I have missunderstood you and you have done this already, I apologise and can only put it down to my hangover.

Edit - Just noticed you used RW disc I dont think you need to Finalise these.......Said I had a hangover......Can't try /check on mine as it is away for repair (DVD read/write probs)
Think I would Copy again onto a DVD-R and finalise that, as I think they are a bit more robust and compatible.

Thanks for the info, have just finalised the disc via the tools and it is just the same so have already put a R- in to try again. After seraching for the manual saw how to finalise thought that might do the trick, my hangover must be just as bad as yours. Will let you know how the other disc goes when complete, thanks again.

A -RW disc does not need to be finalised if you are using VR mode, although it is only playable in VR compatible players. Using Video mode with a -RW disc, you do need to finalise, although then you will be able to play it in most players.

Using a R- has done the trick, bit of fine tuning and think all will be well. Thanks for all the help, a happy new year to all, thanks.
