New Year Hopes/Wishes For Doctor Who:S2
Black Guardian
31-12-2005
As it's New Year I thought I would start a lighthearted thread about what your hopes or wishes are for series two or even three for that matter..you never know RTD might look at the forums and take notice.

For series two I am hoping that we see more rooms inside the TARDIS rather than just the console room and the clothes cupboard!

The rumours about the
Spoiler
Daleks
reappearing so soon after series one are untrue. I think it is unfortunately.

The Master returns especially if they find someone decent to play him and isn't written as a pantomine villain.

RTD hands over the writing reins to others so he can concentrate fully on the production side..no offence but only one or two of his stories worked for me. Think he has done a great job on bringing it back and assembling the talent he has.

Rose does leave at the end of series two or the next Christmas special..not because I dislike Billie as think she has done a great job but might be time to bring in someone new to keep the series fresh and this on/off romance between her and The Doctor will soon become boring if it continues for too long.

Jackie and Mickey are hit and killed instantly by a meteorite sent down by the intergalactic acting police!

Am sure I can think of many others but over to you lot!

RTD said Jackie will be given a ride in the Tardis

How about a working chameleon circuit, even if only for one episode?

Sounds good to me.

Also bring back Harriet Jones in series three.

And the much underrated Zygons which with modern tech/sfx/costumes would look even better.

And Romana..especially Lalla Ward and then regenerate her if she only wants to do a one off appearance.

Now you're talking - let's get Lalla's Romana back for an appearance in series three.

(I was expecting a comment about Rose forgetting the tardis had altered it's appearance, being unable to find it and getting left behind. )

now, now Dennis you know I like Billie/Rose. I just think by the end of the next series it is time for a fresh approach.

so what is your wish list Den?

Well, the return of Romana - possibly in her official capacity as President of Gallifrey - would be great.

(Which rather implies one of my other wishes, really. )

I'm not too bothered with bringing back too much from the past (apart from foes, of course) but if RTD is going to use something from the past in each series I would like to see her return.

I'd also like to see the actual Timewar explored, even if nothing is altered at the end of it. It just seems too big an event not to be given some sort of treatment on-screen.

I have a few other things as well but I'll post later when I have a bit more time.

I think series 2 should have flashbacks of the Time War - when the Doctor is discussing it with someone, say, the Cybermen.

Also, I'd find it sad but thrilling if Rose was converted into the Cyberman (or Cyberwoman). The Doctor would try to win her back, y'know, break the programming as it were - and when he does, Rose asks him to kill her, and he does just that (with hesitation).

In the future at some point:

Daleks
Ice Warriors
Sontarans
Zarbi

A day in the life of a functioning chameleon circuit would be good

And a new 'The Three Doctors', who explain thr Time War (it'll never happen)

If you read the 2006 annual (I'm 36 and I get an annual for Christmas ), RTD says of the Time War, "But whatever the cause - and it's almost certain that the full story has yet to be uncovered - the terrible War began.

Which makes me think we're not finished with the Time War yet.

That sounds interesting - maybe they could do a story involving Doctor number 8?

I got the 2006 Doctor Who annual for Christmas from the boy who cleans my car. My initial reaction was "hmm, does he realize I'm 37?" that reaction didn't stop me reading it from cover to cover though.

I got the same impression as well when I read tha annual. It would be very interesting to delve deeper into the dynamics of the Time War and as someone else said it would look amazing on screen.

Another wish for series two/three is more alien worlds and less emphasis on the soap element!

As much as I agree with you, I can't help thinking it's the soap element that's made Doctor Who so popular.

Happy New Year to you Jimbo. I think it does work on a number of levels too but this will they/won't they element of The Doctor's and Rose's relationship can really go nowhere in terms of them really getting together so I think it is misleading/cheating the audience who do want it to happen. I always thought RTD used the soap element to highlight the fact The Doctor is a loner, has no family or home planet and doesn't do emotions in the same way humans do which is what the Tyler clan are used for. It has it's purpose I appreciate that but if and when Rose/Jackie/Mickey leave they should try and steer away from it a bit more. Get The Doctor back to being this wanderer in eternity in the same kind of vein the 4th Doctor was.

I do hope Rose goes ASAP and if she could take her awful mother and boyfriend too then that would be great.

She's always been the one downside to the new series. She talks proper common like and can't even speak as clear as most aliens.

Plus she has a frumpy dress sense that most chavs wouldn't be seen dead in. When I was a child the female assistants were at least meant to be nominally attractive.

I'd like to see a big reduction in the soap opera side of things. I actually don't DW flirting with his assistants as actually I don't think this has happened with Rose but I think any idea of romance between the doctor and any future assistant is a non-starter.

I'd like to see a bit less of modern London/Cardiff. They had some really convincing sets on the space station at the end of the world and also the media baron episode. Likewise the period pieces, especially the creatures in the gaspipes one, were great. But no more visits to that council block in London please.

I'd like to see a bit more consistent writing as personally I found the quality to vary quite a bit. I didn't like Captain Jack at all.

I'm looking forward to the Cybermen, i hope we get some good solid drama from them as we did with the first Dalek episode. Yes it would be good to see The Master and perhaps take it forward with him being DW's brother as was once originally intended. I'd like a trip to Gallifrey and maybe an episode with a previous doctor... or maybe a future doctor like doctor 26 that we'd never normally see.

I hope we don't see too much of a story arc. Personally all through the last series I couldn't see peoples obsession with the 'Wolf' stuff. Its very hard for writers to have the end pay-off meet the expectations of the audience and as I expected, the final episode was a big let-down. So I'm not bothered about the time-war, it all doesn't make much sense anyway.

I have no problems with the British quirkyness of it at all and liked some of the light hearted moments such as the burping bin and Anne Robinson machine-gunning contestants.

But please, get rid of Rose.
