David Tennant - Doctor for how long?

Hey, I was wondering how many series David Tennant shall be playing The Doctor? I read that it would be seven years to beat Tom Baker's record but is this true? I thought it would be only one...

Well he said on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross that he's definatly staying for another series after the new one. He's reportadly a big fan of the show too, so hopefully that'll mean that he'll be here for a while yet!

I feel sorry for David and Christopher before him. The schedule is really tight! 9 months of filming, plus all the media attention, is gonna take all your free time - and you get 3 months of doing other projects for the rest of the year, then you have to go back to a new Series of Doctor Who - it must be really hard

He also said he would stay as long as the ratings stayed high and he didn't lose any audience,

and i dont think that will happen i reakon it will grow especially as it's the CYBERMEN next.

It is certainly a large chunk out of a year and only having three months to do other parts and get ready for another 9 months in Cardiff! Being realistic he isn't going to want to stay in the role forever but I hope he sticks around for at least 3/4 series.

This is very true, however most of us work at the same job for pretty much 12 months a year (not counting holidays)

I guess if he is well received by the public, the writing remains strong, the BBC give him a bigger incentive to stay in his pay packet, then DT might stick around for a while.

When it first started, Doctor Who was on for nearly ten months a year. The regulars got the odd week off here and there with their characters being written out of particular episodes in various ways.

Sometimes they would just appear in pre-filmed sequences; other times a stand-in would double for them in long shots; in one particular story, the Doctor was made invisible (apart from his hands) and all his dialogue was pre-recorded while somebody else played the part of his hands!

The companions were sometimes captured and locked up in cells for an episode which meant that they didn't appear. They used all sorts of ingenious ways to write them out for a week or two in those days.

To go back to the original question, I say let's see a few episodes with DT before we start wondering when he's going! If Christopher Eccleston's departure hadn't been so quick and well publicised, I'm sure people wouldn't be wondering this.

I guess people are slightly nervous and apprehensive that as they get used to change, then we might have to go through it all over again if DT decides to go sooner rather than later. At least we know he is staying for two series!

It must be murder for him fitting in Dr Who AND Top Gear, Not to mention hosting Brainiac on Sky One.

My 8-year old daughter thinks he looks like Richard Hammond as well. I can't see it, myself.

Mund you, people tell me that I look like Jimmy Carr, Colin Firth and Paul Robinson from Neighbours and I don't think I look anything like any of them!
