What do you like? EastEnders' drums do it for me all the time - Even if it hasnt been a good episode, they allways end a show well becuase of the drums..

I like Emmerdale's music. Corrie seems to be dated a bit and i cant take endings seriously, like when Katie killed Tommy, that na, na, na, na, came on and it doesnt seem to have the same effect as dum, dum, dum, you know what i mean?

I like EE titles good titles aswell, and Family Affairs' aswell as The Bill's and Holby City's!

Just wondering at this silly hour in the morning what is your favourite soap theme?

EE has the stripes - I can't think of any other soap theme with such a good 'cliffhanger' entry to the closing theme - all the others have such slow starts.

EE's drums are classic yeah, but because they're so dramatic they highlight a bad ending whenever there is one...but they are also perfect when the ending is great...

I like the way Emmerdale's strings sweep in at the end of an episode, quite subtle but very effective whatever the ending.

Not fond of Corrie's because the ending is a total non-event, but it's never going to change is it...the plus side is that it can end on whatever scene it chooses and get away with it..

FA's theme was great...the ending had a similar effect to EE's drum-beats, but much quicker...the last scene finished, and then those quick "da da"s before the credits rolled. If you see what I mean

Yeah i know what you men about Family Affairs.. Corrie have the worse endings even if the eppy has been great - They allways end a normal episode on someone like EIleen where it isnt really a cliff hanger.

I like the EastEnders titles and the music, I think they work really well.

I like the new Emmerdale titles, they're much better than the old ones with people who had never even been in the show on them. I also loved the Emmerdale titles from years and years ago with the person paragliding or whatever it's called and someone cycling etc

The Corrie titles have been changed over the years but they're never significantly changed. I personally think they're boring but that's down to the music which has only been SLIGHTLY altered since the show began! EastEnders and Emmerdale have both had theme tune updates and they've both been relatively successful, they just need to update the Corrie theme tune slightly again just a little bit more, they don't have to lose the actual tune though just modernise it a bit.

The new Hollyoaks titles are a bit too flashy IMHO, I even preferred the old ones and they weren't much cop either but that was mainly because they had characters who had left ages ago in the little clips they showed in the titles.

One thing I have to mention is why does Corrie have that blue 'ITV' background for it's credits and Emmerdale has it's own credits? Seems a bit unfair to me and with Corrie being ITV's number 1 soap you'd think that they'd also have their own credits. I can't remember when Corrie last had it's own credits I think they were the view of the chimney pots? It was a long time ago though

They have the perfect oppertunity aswell with the back street behind the houses on The Rovers' side - I dont know why, maybe cause they dont want them or havent thought about it..

I agree that the Corrie music at the end is a total non-event but it does give them the advantage of ending wherever they like, I hadn't really thought about that before.

The Emmerdale symbols clashing are really good and I love the new look credits where it sweeps across at the village at the end.

It does make you wonder how the EastEnders writers/producers manage to find enough moments/scenes to get the drums at the end of each episode but some of the endings don't really work with the drums anyways so they do mess it up sometimes.

The thing aswell with EastEnders is like say in the pub Zoe shouted out 'I have got something to tell you all' (about sleeping with Dirt Den) and it ended but they have to wait for thr drums and Zoe was stood there in silence where if it continued she would have said it straight away, like she was waiting for the drums.. If you understand.

Yes they usually have to have an ending where something is going on unlike Corrie they can't have a quiet ending because they've got the drums so it is hard for them. They do have some non-event endings though with the drums which they've got to sometimes I suppose.

Oh yeah, I thought they were strings. I know the main tune is strings, but I thought the opening bit was too...it does sound like symbols now you mention it.

To be fair - they do (occasionally) use the classic 'romance' theme that work into the closing titles more gently...

I love that theme the classic soft piano music before the credits, it usually works a treat in emotional final scenes

It's called 'Julia's Theme' after the late Julia Smith the co-creator of EastEnders.

I admit I do like the "Julia's theme" - but then I'm getting old, I remember the first time it was used at the end of the classic Den/Michelle canal bank ep.

Can i just ask what 'Julia's theme' is? sorry.

What is that music they play at the end of a really sad episode like when Nana died or when Stacey visited her mum that week.

I really love it.

Yes it is - the style that has an orchestral tune building in volume to the main theme, rather than the DumDum's. And you're right - it was the version used at the end of the week with Stacey's mom (not sure on the Nana Moon use as I caught that on the Omnibus...)

Scary thing is, I think I may have it on vinyl - it was the B-side of the original theme single twenty years ago

Neither soap would screw with the formula because they'd get so many complaints. Can you imagine ANY other theme music for EE and Coronation Street? I don't reckon they'll ever change from the current Corrie music recording and the way the end episodes. However, I think EE is due a rerecording of the theme, keeping it the same but just making it sound better. But they'd probably have to axe a character before they could afford the money for the music recording session.

Perhaps they should record a few variations of the themes so they can choose which one to use depending on how the episode ends. EE can't have a funny or happy ending to an episode because of the drums. It's always got to be someone crying, someone looking intimidatingly at someone else, people screaming at each other then going silent waiting for the drums, a fire being started or somefing. They should have the tune 'Anyone Can Fall In Love' sung by a cast member for a different ending. And a dance version of the Corrie theme just to see what people's reactions are. I'd love that. They should do it on April Fools Day, a hardcore dance version of the Corrie theme.

They will NEVER change any theme music - They might change the sound and what it is played on but the theme will still be in all of them.

The EastEnders Dum Dums are the best. You can almost set your watch by them!

Shouldn't

Soap's Opening Title's & Credit's

be

Soaps' Opening Titles & Credits ? (apostrophes)

Yes, it should. I hadn't noticed! Because titles and credits are just plurals and they belong to the soaps. Well spotted!
