Please can anyone tell me if it's possible, with the same TV, to record onto a DVD recorder at the same time as recording and/or watching something else via a Thomson DVR?

Nope, it's not possible to do both at once. You can schedule it to record at night when you aren't watching telly. It says it can wake up some recorders when the time comes but this is not the case on my Philips DVD Recorder, I just set the timer instead and just edit out the menu screen at the beginning and end.

I'm not sure I agree, it should be perfectly possible to record something using a DVD recorder whilst using your Thomson DVR, provided you're not actually trying to use the Thomson DVR as the source for your recording (i.e. the DVD recorder is using its own tuner)

Thank you. Would it then be necessary to split the aerial - presumably the DVD could operate independently only with its own aerial?

An alternative might be to record onto the DVR, and then record from the DVR to the DVD Recorder - would this be possible?

Sorry, I thought that was what you were trying to do in the first place! Yeah, what I mentioned before was for putting your recorded programmes from the DHD4000 to your DVD recorder

The answer to your original question is yes it is possible to record something on a DVD recorder and record something else on a Thomson DHD 4000 and I have done it. I have a Panasonic DMR-DH50 DVD recorder connected in between the Thomson DHD 4000 and the TV.

In this configuration I can watch either the programme being recorded on the DVD recorder or use the TV's own tuner to watch a third programme.
